Dunuan The Role of the Indian Community in Baguio City’s Development During the 1920s, the Filipino-Indian community pioneered the establishment of several dry goods businesses in the city. Several families set up dry goods stores and department stores in the area formerly called Baguio Escolta (now Session Road). Nowadays, third generation heirs of these businesses have taken on the reins from their parents. There are over 500 members of the Filipino-Indian community in the city to date. In recognition of this long-standing friendship between countries, the local government has proposed to institutionalize the Incredible India Festival every year. According to the ordinance, it will be held every November 27, which commemorates the day when the Philippines and India established formal diplomatic relations in 1949. The exhibit runs until Dec. 15 and is free and open to the public. Baguio Museum is open from Tuesdays to Sundays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Facebook Comments
