Comic Con 2018 Top 5 Reveals

This year’s SDCC has drawn to a close and everyone is either hyped or nervous about the future. Hyped because of all-time favorites like Mothra (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), and nervous because of trailers like Titans. Either way, there’s a lot to look to the horizon for. So let’s take a look at the 5 biggest trailers Comic Con 2018 handed out. Oh and there’s a lot of DC here by the way.

Titans

While not exactly a good trailer, Titans’ SDCC reveal is still a big one. In a nutshell, the trailer captures everything wrong with the DCEU and readies it for TV screens. Out-of-character hero decisions? Check. Unnecessarily dark vibe? Check. Edgy and angsty cast? Check. Why is something so bad considered big news? Because everyone is once again pissed off with DC. Hopefully if fans scream enough, they hear us.

The Flash S5

Ah, the CW. Some people swear by it. Others avoid it like the plague. Love or hate the Arrowverse, it still has one of the biggest fanbases around. Andas far as DC is concerned, it’s doing much better than the comic book giant’s big-screen counterpart. Perhaps the best of the CW’s Comic Con trailers however, is that of The Flash Season 5. It outlines a story around Nora Allen; the future daughter of Barry and Iris. More importantly, it sneaks a peek at the life-stealing villain: Cicada.

Aquaman

And here’s another DC entry. Really, most of the biggest announcements had to do with DC. And this is where things get exciting. The trailer reveals Orm, the titular character’s Atlantean half-brother who intends to declare war on the surface world. It also teases Black Manta, though how the villain ties into the story is unclear as of yet. All in all, a great trailer, and possibly hope for the future rebranding of the DCEU.

Shazam!

A fourth entry. If the Shazam trailer is any indication of the direction the rebranding, then things look bright. In contrast to the rest of the extended universe, Shazam seems to have an upbeat and cheerful vibe. The trailer even seems to crack a joke about how dark DC characters typically are.

Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters

Finally, what we’re most excited about. While the 2014 Godzilla reboot was nothing incredible, it did spark renewed interest in everyone’s favorite kaiju. Straight to the point, it looks like Legendary has been listening to fans. We’re getting more monsters, more monster screen time, and less emphasis on people. I mean of course people are part of the story, but we go to a Godzilla film to freaking see Godzilla. With Mothra, Rodan, and even King Ghidora, this looks like a monster brawl we wouldn’t miss if the world ended.
