Out of 151 present representatives, only a mere 32 individuals stood against the P1,000 Budget. Netizens instantly wailed against the decision, making it another trending topic on Twitter. One of the representatives who received some backlash was Batangas Representative Vilma Santos. Luis Manzano Defends Mother Rep. Vilma Santos on Twitter Hate from CHR Crisis After the granted budget, one netizen mentioned Batangas Representative Vilma Santos– saying she was part of those who voted in favor of the measly budget equating to $20. Luis Manzano took notice of this, and replied to the user, defending his mother. In the tweet, he said that she had missed the meeting for she was confined and under medication. He also posted a screenshot of their conversation. The message read: “Am against cutting the budget of CHR. They have a duty to perform as mandated by the constitution… With so much crimes/EJKs (extra judicial killings) – they need more resources to these investigations. Ito ang ahensyang tumutulong sa karapatang pangtao!!” Unfortunately, Rep. Vilma Santos was not present to defend her stance. While it may be a grossly unfathomable derivation from more than a hundred public servants, it is now left in the hands of the Senate to counter the decision. Twitter Reacts to P1000 Budget Proposal for CHR Compared to the P623.4 million budget proposed by the Department on Budget’s initial decision, the P1000 was simply a dot. On Twitter, the topic of Human Rights reached a trending–obviously, there are tons of Filipinos blowing off steam after the awful news. Twitter users tweeted with the hashtag: #GivemyTaxtoCHR. Reporter Karen Davila was among those who posted her disappointment on twitter saying: “CHR is supposed to be independent. Its mandate is to investigate human rights abuses committed by govt like police, military, judges etc.” Another journalist, Atom Araullo also gave his sarcastic statement, saying that the cost of living might as well be high because the price of life is disappointingly cheap anyway. One user even mentioned the barbaric treatment of the government, saying they just ‘love to treat citizens like animals.’ Someone even compared the budget to the price of her clothes– which were more expensive. Speaking of expensive, this account even told his followers that the Board Member Mocha Uson’s salary could fund the Commission on Human Rights for half a decade. And that’s a lot of money– or should we say, a lot less of it. With some misconceptions about losing the essential Human Rights if the Budget was this crumb of taxpayer money, it’s not too late to fight for it. It’s an inherent right for every living, breathing individual. First, my mom is against the 1k budget of the CHR. Second, she wasn't able to vote since she was about to be confined and was/is under meds. https://t.co/Y9VSwN77Ij — Luis Manzano (@luckymanzano) September 13, 2017 My mom's clarificatory message regarding the CHR issue 🙂 and yes, she always makes lambing with extra "s" ❤️❤️❤️ pic.twitter.com/qM0gspyLTN — Luis Manzano (@luckymanzano) September 13, 2017 Facebook Comments
