Baguio City’s Cool Christmas Caravan brings gastronomic delights to the Rose Garden, for residents and visitors to enjoy this Christmas season. Starting December 3, the city’s growing community of food trucks can be found all around Rose Garden, offering different mouth-watering dishes. This is part of the local government unit’s activities organized for Christmas. The food trucks will be at Rose Garden until January 8, 2023.
Celebrate Christmas with Good Food
Seven food trucks are available to serve up good food, beginning at 12 noon until 10 p.m. in the evening, every day. There are different dishes and drinks for every appetite or craving.
If you are craving for Mexican flavors, be it soft tacos or Tex-Mex hard tacos, get it from not just one, but two food trucks. Bleu Carrot Food Truck is a homegrown venture which started during the pandemic. From catering to special events, they have gone on to win the Best Chili in the recent Chili Cook-Off for 2022. Try their Kiniing Taco, made with a Cordillera twist using smoked meat or kiniing or their Baddest Chili Dog, made with their winning chili. Don’t forget to pair these up with Gatsa Milk Tea concoctions.
Drive-By Taco Shop serves up Tex-Mex Street Tacos, Quesadillas, Burritos and Nachos. They are a newcomer in the food truck scene here in Baguio, but their first shop was set up in Paranaque.
If you are hankering for rice meals, head on down to Teppan on Wheels. This food truck is one of the two food trucks that serve Japanese rice meals at Rose Garden. Choose from their Steak, Shrimp or Chicken teppan on Japanese fried rice, or their Beef or Tempura Udon noodles.
The Firehouse Grill food truck is another new entrant. Their menu is also Japanese (yes, you heard it right). Bento boxes are available with Chicken Teriyaki or Chicken Katsu as the mains, as well as sushi rolls and three kinds of Takoyaki.
On the other side of the garden are three food trucks who can be considered as OGs of the food truck scene in Baguio. First up is Gastro Jeep Food Truck, which stands out because it is the only food truck that is fashioned out of an actual jeepney. Pinoy street food is their main fare: chicken skin, fish balls, squid balls, kikiam and kwek-kwek to name a few. Must try are their fruit teas available in several flavors like green apple, lychee, strawberry, among others.
Gypsy Wagon is that tiny red truck right next to GastroJeep. Don’t belittle the size though because this truck packs a punch when it comes to one-of-a-kind sandwiches, and sweet desserts. Try their Kimchi Grilled Cheese sandwich or Sirloin Flakes sandwich. For your sweet tooth, get your sugar rush with their fruit empanadas and their choco bombs.
Craft Burgers by BrrrGrrr Food Truck is powered by the burger joint in Baguio that came up with some of the biggest burgers in Baguio City. It serves burgers in three sizes: Large (1/4kg), XL (1/2kg) and XXL (1.2kg), clearly for different appetite sizes.
