Cosplay Fanfare

Baguio-based cosplay event organizer, Curteana Cosplay Events, will be hosting the Cosplay FanFare at the PFVR Gymnasium from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Baguio City on Saturday, January 14. Curteana Cosplay Events through its Facebook page says the event will be “a colorful carnival-themed cosplay festivity made to kickstart 2017 with fun and awesome cosplays.” Curteana Cosplay Events is also the bringer of the Tanabata Festival in 2016.

The anime-loving population of Baguio City has incredibly grown. Now, there are more people inspired by the Japanese culture who express themselves through ‘cosplays’ or costume plays. These cosplayers, dress up as anime characters that they really love and re-live the characters themselves in cosplay events. Fans who visit these cosplays get to appreciate cosplayers and allow them to feel like the characters they imitate are the real thing.

Cosplay FanFare, To Showcase Baguio Talent And Creativity

Pilipinas Popcorn was able to do an exclusive interview through Facebook chat with one of Curteana Cosplay Events founders, Chairein Cordoviz. According to Chairein, they created the event for the youth who seek new and exciting experiences while showcasing their talents and creativity either through singing, make up, sewing, crafting—the options are endless. She said, “It has been our main purpose to empower the youth with activities like these as well as to help local businesses to bloom.”

The Cosplay Fanfare would also be the grand opening event of Baguio Cosplay Costume Shop with its store opening soon. They will be featuring Baguio-based brands that mostly focus on cosplay, JFashion/Harajuku, anime products and services. The shop that will soon cater to the cosplay needs of every enthusiast out there.

Cosplay FanFare, Highlights, Program And What To Expect

Cosplay Fanfare is a colorful carnival-themed cosplay festivity that kickstarts 2017 with fun and awesome cosplays. The event is packed with cosplay contests, singing contests, eating and drinking contests and also a mini concert. Here’s what fans can expect from the event.

C.M.K.C.in the house!

One of the highlights of the event would be one of Baguio’s own, Christina Marie K. Carbonell, aka C.M.K.C. Christina is a cosplayer and describes herself as a “singer-songwriter, song coverist and a Youtaite.” C.M.K.C. will be judging the anime singing contest and will also be performing. Chairein of Curteana says they got local artists like C.M.K.C so they can “expose what great and talented youth we have in Baguio today.”

The Main event!

The cosplay contest — Probably the biggest reason why everyone would go. See what cosplayers have in store for the audience with the costumes they so ardently crafted with their blood, sweat and tears!

Eating Contest

Never forget that food is love and that food is life. There is no better way than to say, “I LOVE FOOD!” by joining and hoping for the best. Eat until your passion for food screams out to everyone!

Drinking Contest

Where there is food, there will always be drinks. When in doubt? CHUG! CHUG! CHUG!

Aside from the program itself, Chairein of Curteana says “Cosplayers may expect to meet friends who share the same hobbies and likes as they do.” They can also win prizes by just attending the event. She also said, “They can also look forward to Crafts and art, geek-fashion-anime items, as well as delectable food from our booths!”

The Cosplay Fanfare this year is the first. Asked if the Cosplay FanFare will be a yearly event, Chairein says, “Well by the peoples call then we will make it a yearly event.” She ended with a line that encouraged the promotion of local talent and said, “let us help one another to show what Baguio has to offer!”

One good thing about events like this is that anyone can make new friends and share their hobbies and interests with one another. No one will ever feel alone and no one will ever regret chatting with the awe-inspiring costumes the cosplayers will be wearing. The event is open to all even those who are not entirely familiar with anything that is Japanese inspired.

Those interested to join the Cosplay Fanfare may get their tickets a t the Baguio Cosplay Costume Shop at the 5th floor of Baguio Centermall. Tickets are sold daily from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily until January 13.
