Back then, the concept of Internet cafes was new to me, and it was probably the first non-console game I ever got to test out. The feeling I got out of controlling an army of undead minions was just something I loved, and I haven’t stopped loving that feeling to this day. Obey me, mortals. You know in hindsight, I distinctly remember my family hating that I even gave the Diablo franchise a try. That was back in 2001. So for concerned parents out there, Diablo isn’t about worshipping evil. Spoiler alert: you work hand in hand with an angel to beat Diablo in the end. But yes… it needs a mature tone. It’s not for kids. The Necromancer: Lore Necromancers in the Diablo universe are not necessarily evil. They are protectors of the balance between life and death. Also called the Priests of Rathma, they practice their arts from massive underground cities. They are the only mortals capable of wielding power over the dead. They see death as an inevitabile part of the “Great Cycle of Life,” and guard the secrets of their magic in order to protect the cycle. While Diablo — the game’s primary antagonist — and his forces have similar abilities, the Priests of Rathma use their abilities as a tool to preserve rather than to destroy. Ultimately, the Priests have found it necessary to use their powers to face off against Diablo himself. The Necromancers of Diablo III are taking a twist, however: they will actually be “Nephalem.” For those who don’t know, Nephalem are the mortal spawn of an angel and a demon. In the game, Nephalem are the forebears of humanity. Diablo III Necromancer Features Blizzard’s reveal of the Necromancer shows a return of some old features from Diablo II, as well as new mechanics. The Necromancer will be the only class in the game able to equip the Scythe-class of weapons. They will be able to summon and control minions just as the Witch Doctor class does. However, Blizzard has stated that the Necromancer will have a “more controlled” gameplay experience focusing on raw materials to cast their spells. This means they will require actual corpses, blood, and bone (in-game of course) to raise their armies. Back in the days of Diablo II, the first expansion pack came with two fully playable classes. Diablo III’s Necromancer is being released a full three years after the last class came out. Blizzard has not been known to rush their games, but this is abysmally slow even for them. Honestly though, Blizzard’s practice of never rushing their franchises has proved to be a successful one. So while the wait is killing everyone, there’s a good chance it will be worth it in the end. The Necromancer will be released in 2017, after the January time-limited event: “The Darkening of Tristram” Excited for the Necromancer?
