In 7 years, the subway agreed upon by Japan and the Philippines will be ready for citizen’s use. The government’s Manila Subway called the Mega Manila Subway is one of the rail projects set to be done in partnership with Japan. It will run from Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City to the airport in Pasay City. Reports say the subway system will connect Quezon City and Taguig city with a travel time of only 31 minutes. On Tuesday, April 18, DOT secretary Arthur Tugade confirmed the news during the forum that launched the “Dutertenomics.” Manila Subway to be completed in 7 years, contract to be signed in November A report by CNN said Secretary Tugade confirmed that by the second quarter of the year 2024, the project will have been finished. Furthermore, he said the contract signing will be in November, the time when Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe would visit the country for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit. Tugade said that the project will be the first subway system in the Philippines using “Japanese tunneling expertise.”A feasibility is currently being done through a grant from the Japan International cooperation Agency (JIA) and the project is in its development stage. Construction will begin in 2020 but is being pushed earlier to 2019. Phase 1 is set to be from Quezon City to Taguig City. The Mega Manila Subway is proposed to have 13 stations. The total budget allocated for the project is P 227 million which will be included in the national budget. Additional funds, however, will come from foreign government loans as reported by CNN. Tugade shared the burden of this project with every Filipino and asked for support saying, “This is a very ambitious project. Give us your trust, give us your confidence. We will build, build, build.
