The series of tremors in Manila, Batangas, Lanao del Sur and even Baguio City created quite a scare among Filipinos. Rumors even spread saying “the big one” is yet to come and people have to get ready. The most recent quake as of writing was recorded at 1:40 p.m.and 1:01 p.m. on April 12. These had a magnitude 2.3 and 4.4 respectively in Lanao Del Sur. The strongest, however, was recorded at magnitude 6.0 at 5:21 a.m. at the same area. Data from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS) website show 30 earthquakes recorded on April 12 from 12:52. a.m to 1:40 p.m. The first data recorded was a magnitude 2.3 quake that hit Itogon, Benguet. The other earthquakes recorded were felt in Davao Oriental, Batangas, and Lanao Del Sur. Magnitude 6.0 Earthquake in Wao, Lanao Del Sur At 5:21 a.m. on April 12, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit Wao, Lanao Del Sur. Another tremor was felt at magnitude 4.0 in the same area minutes later at 5:51 a.m., CNN reported that the quake left several structures in the municipality damaged. Francis Garcia of the Lanao del Sur Local Disaster and Risk Reduction Management office said there were thirty houses, two mosques and a national school left with partial damages. The national highway was also damaged with a 2.5 meter long crack but thankfully there were no casualties reported. The report further said residents have evacuated their homes in Wao and patients at the local hospital have been evacuated as well. The Lanao del Sur quake was the latest recorded to date in the Philippines. However, since March, numerous cities which include Batangas, Manila and even Baguio City have experienced these tremors. Magnitude 6.0 earthquakes in Mabini, Batangas in April Tremors with magnitude 5.4 started on April 4 in Mabini, Batangas. A series of aftershocks followed thereafter hitting Metro Manila and Luzon areas with a magnitude 5.5 quake. Tremors re-occurred on April 5 at around 6:41 a.m. Click here to read the full report. It was on April 8, however, when a magnitude 6.0 quake hit Mabini, Batangas at 3:09 p.m. Shortly after, a magnitude 5.9 tremor was recorded in Tanauan, Batangas. CNN reported that only minor damage was reported and there were no evacuations done. Series of Mild Earthquakes Hit Baguio City in March Baguio City wasn’t spared from the tremors as four mild earthquakes hit the City of Pines on March 22. The first two occurred at 11:34 a.m. and 11:37 a.m. with magnitudes 3.0 and 2.4 respectively. The next occurred at 1:08 p.m. and 5:37 p.m. with magnitude 2.5 and 2.8 respectively. There were no damage from the mild quakes and the Philippine Information Agency said it should not cause alarm among people. Facebook Comments
