The people have spoken, and it seems clear that the people love daytime TV host Ellen DeGeneres, not just for her hosting abilities but also for her comedic skills and for giving life to a beloved animated character. During the 2016 People’s Choice Awards, DeGeneres broke the record for the most number of awards given to an individual. As of today, she holds the new record of 20 People’s Choice Awards, since the start of the awards.
Justin Timberlake Presents Award for Favorite Daytime TV Host
Singer Justin Timberlake, who incidentally is also a good friend of Degeneres, presented the award that broke the record, which is the one for Favorite Daytime TV Host for “The Ellen Degeneres Show.” During his presentation, he also reveals that Degeneres is the most “decorated” of them all, while he was flanked by 20 men carrying all of her awards so far. Timberlake called Degeneres on stage and handed her the 20th award.
Degeneres also received two other awards earlier on, one for Favorite Comedic Collaboration for “Mall Mischief” with Britney Spears, and another for Favorite Animated Film Voice for her role as the forgetful “Dory” in “Finding Dory.”
Ellen Degeneres On 20 Awards: ‘Outrageous’
Upon accepting her 20th award, she even joked about the number 20 being “outrageous.” She went on to thank the people who have voted and have made this the real “people’s choice” awards.
As she was doing her acceptance speech, the People’s Choice Awards Twitter account posted about Justin Timberlake’s and Ellen Degeneres’ friendship, wishing that everyone would have the “same kind of friendship.”
In last year’s awards, Degeneres walked away with the Favorite Daytime TV Host award as well as one of the biggest awards, Favorite Humanitarian. As favorite humanitarian, she was described by presenter Melissa McCarthy as this: “She approaches every act of giving with a strength of a determined warrior,” according to a post in People’s Choice blog.
