In a very exquisite edition of Vanity Fair, Emma Watson becomes this century’s most alluring Disney princess. As pages are turned, we see more of the photoshoot showcasing our beautiful Belle. Although, some feminists raised their brows to a very surprising shot of Emma donned with a crocheted cardigan that served more on baring than covering.
Emma Watson Vanity Fair Photo debate on Twitter
In the photo, she poses the crochete that barely (no pun intended) covered her breasts. Instantly, some feminists have expressed their thoughts in social media sparking a debate about Feminism and its definition. Her exposure is said to count for female objectification.
Twitter has particularly been the platform for this debate; TV personality Piers Morgan for one, says that Emma Watson “needs to work out what she finds conflicting.” He also comments about Emma Watson’s lamenting over Beyonce in 2014, along with thousands of other members from the Beyhive.
Even radio broadcaster Julia Hartley-Brewer called her out for being a ‘hypocrite.’
Other personalities have also expressed their support for her:
Victoria Jenkinson, a member of Girlguiding tells BBC that “The shoot doesn’t suggest hypocrisy nor does it undermine her work as a feminist and we as women should be united in our fight for equality more than ever before…A woman should be able to choose what she wants to do. This is what feminism is all about in 2017.”
Feminism researcher Dr. Finn Mackay tells BBC that choices made by women do not always contribute to their welfare and that that was ‘nonsense.’ Albeit this, Doctor Mackay says that the photo shoot is far from being a feminist act.
Emma Watson reacts to comments saying she can’t be Feminist
In a promotional video for Beauty and the Beast, the actress says that she is ‘confused’ by the accusations thrown at her. She states: “feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women with.” She’s also bothered by what her breasts have to do with her being feminist.
She also tweeted the transcription of her interview with Tavi where she spoke about Beyonce’s ‘confusing’ feminist stand and the delivery of her performance. It appears as if confusion is a common thing for the Beauty and the Beast actress.
In other news: Emma Watson not afraid to discuss the Ugly on beauty matters
Emma Watson confesses beauty secrets to Into the Gloss and unabashedly does so too. It’s all in the routine, it seems. Everybody knows taking careful attention to good skin care and overall health is a good investment. And Emma is not afraid to show it.
“There’s still so much shame around the things you do to get ready while you’ve got a towel wrapped around your head.” the actress states. Truth be told, after-bath routines that have something to do with pubic hairs are secrets that a woman locks up in the safety of her room. Tips are searched in private and every woman understands that.
She confesses “I’ve been bleaching my top lip since I was nine. I don’t do it very often, but I do it.” Talk about openness and confidence!
She also doesn’t shy away from topics like pubic hairs. “I use Fur Oil. I’ll use that anywhere from the ends of my hair to my eyebrows to my pubic hair,” she says.
