Given Apple’s recent history (the security breach, the battery life problems, etc), this kind of caution isn’t surprising. Of course, such technological screw-ups are the reasons we need software updates in the first place. The question then becomes: is it worth it to upgrade? Let’s find out. Here is everything about Apple iOS 11.4.1 iOS 11.4.1 Changelog: What it Does “iOS 11.4.1 includes bug fixes and improves the security of your iPhone or iPad. This update: Fixes an issue that prevented some users from viewing the last known location of their AirPods in Find My iPhone Improves reliability of syncing mail, contacts and notes with Exchange accounts.” While the official update 11.4.1 release notes are vague, public testing reveals several performance and quality of life changes. The patch is a relatively minor one, especially considering the upcoming update 12. Regardless, Apple’s attempts at ensuring iOS 11 works smoothly are appreciated. The complete list of changes is listed below. CFNetwork fixed a minor issue where cookies would persist in the Safari browser. Emoji fixed an issue where processing an emoji could lead to denial of service. Kernel fixed a security issue that allowed local users to read kernel memory. libxpc fixed a memory corruption issue that could allow applications to gain elevated privileges. LinkPresentation fixed a URL handling issue that allowed malicious websites to spoof the device’s address bar. Webkit fixed a security issue that allowed cross-origin exfiltration of audio data. fixed a security issue that allowed malicious websites to cause denial of service. fixed multiple memory handling errors that caused Safari to crash when processing maliciously crafted content. fixed a URL handling issue that allowed malicious websites to spoof the device’s address bar. fixed a security issue that could lead to arbitrary code execution. Wi-Fi fixed a security issue that allowed malicious applications to break out of their sandbox. Update 11.4.1 Limitations Unfortunately, Apple has yet to address the recurring battery-life problem. Reportedly, it also introduces a new error that could potentially be a bigger problem than any of what it has fixed. It’s a good thing too. Because if the problem is in fact connected to the changes introduced in update 11.4.1, then users will probably have to rely on Apple Support’s aid until another official patch rolls out.
