On May 8, SM Entertainment revealed that Kai’s father passed away on May 7 due to a chronic illness. Furthermore, SM added that Kai is at the funeral home, and he wishes for a quiet funeral with his family and close acquaintances. Kai is close to his father because he was the one who encouraged and inspired him to join the SM Youth Best Contest. Kai won the said competition and after that, he signed with S.M. Entertainment in 2007 and began training in hip-hop. Due to his father’s encouragement, Kai was selected to be part of a new boy band put up by Lee Soo-man which is now popularly known as EXO. Since then, Kai appeared in some dramas like “7 First Kisses” and “Choco Ban” in 2016, and KBS1 “Andante” in 2017. In an interview with Sports Seoul, he talked about how supportive his father is. He confessed that his father always wanted to pursue art but his family was against it. This is the reason why his father always advises him to try and follow whatever he wanted to do in life. Kai also pointed out that his dad always believed in him even during the times that he doesn’t believe in himself anymore. Even when he is already reaching almost all of his dreams and goals, his dad never left his side. He was always there to support and guide him in all he does. With this, it must be very hard for Kai to move on from his father’s fate. Kai re-organize schedule for drama filming Following his father’s death, Kai will have to make some adjustments on his tapings for the new KBS drama called “The Miracle We Met.” In a report by Naver, it says he is coordinating his scheduled shooting to look after his father’s last way.
