Facebook Introduces New Security Feature, Profile Picture Guard

Social media giant, Facebook, is introducing another helpful feature that would protect all users’ profile picture. This could be of great help to anyone concerned about their profile photo being downloaded and misused. The newest Facebook protection feature is called the Profile Picture Guard. Here’s how it works.

Introducing: Facebook Profile Picture Guard

In a nutshell, the Profile Picture Guard platform aims to protect a user’s profile picture. This is made possible by activating the feature. Then, a thin blue border around the picture, as well as a little shield icon at the bottom will appear. As things stand today, anyone can download or share a user’s profile picture on Facebook. However, with Profile Picture Guard, this will no longer be the case. According to Newsroom Facebook, here are more about its features:

1.Other people will no longer be able to download, share or send your profile picture in a message on Facebook

2.People you’re not friends with on Facebook won’t be able to tag anyone, including themselves, in your profile picture

3.Where possible, it will prevent others from taking a screenshot of your profile picture on Facebook, which is currently available only on Android devices

4.It will display a blue border and shield around your profile picture as a visual cue of protection

Based on tests made, whenever a user opts to add an extra design layer to their photo, there is at least a 75 percent chance of not being able to get or copy it. Sure, this may entail a lot of work and adjustments for Facebook. Nonetheless, if this would cut down on the misuse of profile pictures, then they’re up for it.  A group of Indian women who choose not to upload their faces on the internet out of fear motivated the creation of protection platform.

Today, the Profile Picture Guard is made available in India. However, Facebook announced that it is considering to make the feature available around the globe.
