Not everyone is on social media. It sounds almost unbelievable because it looks like almost everyone you know has some kind of social media profile. Finding people who don’t have a Facebook account or Twitter sounds blasphemous, you question how can they live? Social media has become the 21st-century newspaper of who’s who and what’s happening. Especially for celebrities, their accounts are what keep us common folks up to date with their lives.
For most of us, we enjoy browsing our favorite celebrity’s Instagram account. It’s nice to know what they like, what they wear, and where they go. But there a few of our faves who refused to get one. It could be frustrating for fans not knowing every single detail of their fave but being a star on social media comes with responsibility. Most of these celebs with no Instagram account either don’t see the appeal or don’t want to post about themselves 27/7 when there’s the paparazzi tailing them.
Jennifer Lawrence
In an interview with BBC Radio, the “Hunger Games” star said avoids social media at all costs. Lawrence admitted to BBC Radio 1 host Nick Grimshaw, she isn’t tech savvy. Another reason for this social media ban is because the internet has scorned her. If you may recall nude photos of the actress was leaked online. She has since moved on from the incident and prefers her private life private. As much as she loves her fans, she doesn’t want to broadcast her every move with a single picture. So if you think you’re following the real Jennifer Lawrence on Instagram, you are not.
Scarlet Johansson
When you’re on Instagram you share the shallow to the intimate details of your life. You post your outfit of the day, your meal, and whatever you’re doing at the moment. But for Scarlet Johansson, she doesn’t understand why people do that. She tells Interview Magazine, she prefers people have less access to her personal life. The “Avengers” actress doesn’t understand how other actors who are constantly followed by paparazzi are comfortable with sharing their life on social media. But she respects them if that’s what they want to do.
Meghan Markle
“Suits” actress and the soon-to-be wife of Prince Harry deleted most of her social media accounts – including Instagram. The decision to shut down her accounts was due to her transition into royal status. Sure the senior members of the monarchy have their own accounts but they are run by their official social media team. Markle’s accounts might come back but her posts would be monitored and posted by the communication staff. Giving up her Instagram is a price she’s willing to because she’s marrying the love of her life. It’s only a minor adjustment to the royal life.
Jake Gyllenhaal
A lot of people believe social media is disconnecting us. Jake Gyllenhaal is one of those believers. Even though Instagram helps you share your aesthetic mundane life, the actor prefers to look up from his screen. He told USA Today, that it’s a little scary most people prefer to look at their lives on a screen. He prefers to be present in the moment and share a couple of pictures with his close circle of people without the whole world peering in as well.
Emma Stone
The “La La Land” actress doesn’t like social media. For a split second, she had a Twitter account but immediately shut it down when a troll hacked it. The incident caused Stone to quit social media. Aside from the hacking incident, she doesn’t like the way people cultivate their lives on social media like Instagram. She tells EPIX, people are only showing their best pictures of their day and not their authentic selves. Their lives are based on a set of beautifully taken pictures.
Rachel McAdams
You’d think Regina George would have an Instagram account but Rachel McAdams isn’t into new media. She admitted to People Magazine, she is ignorant of any social media platform. She considers herself more old school. While most of us watch TV or read online for the news, the “Mean Girls” actress listens to the radio. Yes, she prefers the listen to the radio to know what’s happening in the world. And then e-mail? She admits she’s very bad at sending e-mails.
So if you think you’re following any celebrity on this list, you’re probably following a fake account. None of these celebrities are into Instagram or any form of social media. Make sure you always check if the account is verified. If you find your fave on this list, don’t worry there’s always Google to help you out if you need to know something else about them.
