1. Wear anything you want! In this day and age, it’s important to be who you are. And this may mean seeing somebody wear striped neon tops and plaid yellow pants, but the bottom line is that we do what makes us happy. In fact, old fashion trends from previous decades have emerged again– like high waisted bottoms and tall, colorful socks. It’s actually quite vibrant and lively! This fashion and beauty trend doesn’t just teach us contemporary chic looks one should be owning in their closets nowadays, it also reminds us to choose to be ourselves.

2. Diversity please. It’s undeniable that Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty advocacy to include all the shades as much as possible has earned the respect of many makeup enthusiasts. It makes people of all color included– that they can name their shades and wouldn’t have to go through the struggle of mixing two foundations together just to get the job done.

Because of this, we can expect other beauty products to be following the trend– including as much as they can into their cosmetics line. From skin types to skin colors to skin allergies, you name it!

3. SPF saves! Nowadays, skin-related diseases have risen quite significantly, as caused by environmental factors– particularly, global warming. Hence, it’s a capital ESSENTIAL to ensure that your body is well-covered with sun protection. In fact, Cancer.org warns us that UV rays are strongest from 10 AM- 4 PM. This is 6 long hours of your daylight– and that means you need extra, extra protection. Prevention is better than cure, after all! Thus: prevention, the cosmetics industry shall deliver. Expect to see SPF on more foundations, powders, lip balms, etc.

4. Sultry eyes. It may not be popular in the Filipino culture, but if you open up Youtube and watch every single makeup guru, you’re sure to never miss the fake lashes. That’s right, shave off all the hair on your face– but make sure your brows are thick and your lashes are long. Cosmetic services like microblading, brow tattoos, and eyelash extensions are all beauty trends that have been growing just recently. And it won’t be stopping anytime soon.

5. Clay Masks? Clay masks are nothing new– in fact, they’ve been on the market for some time now. But for some reason, they’re gaining popularity this 2018. Wonder why? Well, it may have been a premonition for some trend-followers because back in 2017, face masks were regarded as the Most Googled Beauty Trend, reported by Mariclaire.

6. K-pop Kraze. Korean beauty products is a different conversation. It’s gotten quite innovative with all the weird serums and natural extracts they’ve been using in their cosmetics. Not that it’s a bad thing– it’s pretty awesome! Aside from music and boy bands, K-pop in the Philippines and all over the world, is definitely well-loved.

7. Sunflower oil vs Petroleum Jelly. Petroleum Jelly used to be the moisturizer you use when your skin starts to flake– but because it is water-repellent and is not soluble in water, it tends to block pores leaving no room for oxygen. This is when breakouts happen– and nobody wants that. The solution: sunflower oil. It’s said to be non-comedogenic so it won’t block pores and will easily be absorbed by the skin. All the while, it leaves your face well-hydrated with a glow.

8. Natural is Beautiful. Unfortunately, this beauty trend of 2018 doesn’t mean bare-faced, it actually means that if you wear makeup, you have to look like you’re not wearing makeup. True enough it’s nothing new to the fashion world, but it’s getting plenty of love in this decade. The trend states that when you put on foundation, it should look seamless and dewy; eyeshadow should be there, but subtle, and all kinds of witchcraft!

9. Beauty trends against Artificial Environmental Factors. According to Vogue, there are some brands that have taken into consideration other factors that may affect the skin. Particularly, factors that can be found in most modern environments like air conditioning, heating, and something they call ‘captive bacteria’– bacteria that stores itself in closed buildings and public transports. It even mentions the blue light from computer screens– sounds pretty rad!

This is an awesome innovation for sure– taking a closer look at situations that most people would be facing and solving those issues without them having to realize that there was such a thing!

10. Healthy is sexy. While we are all for doing what you love and vice versa, the newest fashion and beauty trend is to consider your wellness. It’s always of the utmost importance to keep your body healthy and great– because it’s the body that will enable you to perform your best and to be your best.
