A lot of events are happening in February. Along with the Panagbenga Festival, it is also National Arts Month. And here is a round up of events all over the country.
February Is National Arts Month
Not many are aware that February is National Arts Month in the Philippines. The National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) leads the celebration with its line up of activities. According to the NCCA website, the celebration opens on Feb. 3, with consecutive opening programs in Angono, Rizal, in Roxas City and in Cagayan de Oro City.
Baguio City will be part of the caravan for Architecture and Allied Arts as well as Literary Arts. This includes a forum and an exhibit on Philippine architecture and a literary arts festival called Maartext. Maartext features performances, lectures, writing workshops and exhibits on arts, spoken word, dance and theater.
To encourage the participation of millennials, NCCA also launched a Vlogging Contest where Filipinos, aged 16 years old and above can share 5-minute videos that show them experiencing Philippine arts and culture. Submission will be through Facebook with a deadline on Feb. 12. For more information, check the NCCA website.
CCP Open House: Pasinaya 2018
In line with the National Arts Month, the Cultural Center of the Philippines holds its annual open house called Pasinaya 2018. To be held on Feb. 3 and 4 in various venues in CCP and other partner venues, the festival will bring Filipinos closer to Philippine creative arts and performance arts.
You can see previews of upcoming plays through their see-all-you-can-pay-what-you-can scheme. Workshops on creative arts, music and dance will also be open on a pay-what-you-can basis also. Partner museums (all 14 of them) will be open to the public and will be accessible via shuttle service during the two-day festival. Click here for further schedule details. You may also pre-register to the event online.
Philippine International Hot-Air Balloon Fiesta 2018
On the second weekend of Feb., thousands will head to Clark, Pampanga for the 22nd Philippine International Hot-Air Balloon Fiesta. Slated from Feb. 8 to 11, the festival guarantees another “weekend of everything that flies.” For more information on how to get tickets and the schedule, check the PIHABF website.
