Kyle Gianan, who also goes by the name Krazykyle, loves to collect memorabilia from the 80s and 90s. This passion for the old along with his 500,000-piece collection has earned him the title “The Filipino Picker” and the privilege to participate in the first-ever History Con held in the Philippines in 2016.
The Filipino Picker @ History Con 2016
As The Filipino Picker, Krazykyle proudly participated in the first ever History Con held in Manila last August where he showcased his wide collection of memorabilia from the 80s and 90s. His booth had old toys, old comic books, and old posters of celebrities during the era. He also displayed old appliances such as television sets encased in wooden cabinets, electric fans, and radios.
What exactly is a “picker?” The History Channel has a show called “The American Pickers” featuring two friends who go around the US looking for things to “pick,” buy and eventually sell. Most of the things they choose are rare and collectible items, which can be as big as a motorcycle or as small as a clock.
The Filipino Picker Loves Items With ‘Sentimental Value’
The Filipino Picker says he goes to places such as Tagaytay, Bulacan and other provinces in search for items that, according to an ABS-CBN report, brings back memories of his childhood. He started collecting PBA memorabilia and throughout the years, he has expanded his collection to around 500,000 pieces, the report said.
Krazykyle is also an award-winning rap artist and is known for his collaboration with Karylle, “Awit Kay Inay.” He differentiates himself from other pickers because he is more of a buyer and if he likes an item very much, he will not sell it.
His two-story shop in Mandaluyong houses his vast collection. There are pieces in his collection that he wants to keep for himself and is not on display in his shop. One such piece is an original poster of “Friends” signed by all the cast members, which he bought for PhP 25,000.
