Aguilar said that his decision was provoked by calls and strong support from some of his friends and followers. In an interview with Dobol B sa News TV as reported by GMA News, Freddie explains how he arrived at this decision. He says, “Wala pa kaming pinag-uusapan ni Digong (Duterte’s nickname), wala, wala akong plano. Talagang napagisip-isip ko nang mabuti. Eh ngayon hindi na ako makatanggi dahil sabi ng mga kaibigan natin. ‘Ano pa hinihintay mo Freddie? May kakampi ka na ngayon diyan. Oh, bakit ayaw mo pang tulungan ‘yung kakampi mo? Kailan ka pa tatakbo, kung wala na diyan ‘yung kakampi mo?’ Lalong hindi ka na tatakbo ngayon,” Aguilar said. Freddie Aguilar will run for Senate in 2019 under PDP-Laban In a Viber message to Senate reporters, Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III admitted that the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) is considering the singer to be part of its senatorial slate, as the Inquirer reports. The Senate leader said he is “not yet” included as they have yet to finalize their list. ‘By August-September pa yan ma-finalize given the overflow,” Pimentel said. Pimentel also said the singer is qualified to run for the Senate. “Go over the qualifications for senator. He has all of them. And for sure he has ideas on how legislation can solve some of our problems,” the Senate President said. Pimentel said that there are more than 20 potential candidates including the members of the Senate majority bloc who will seek reelection. Among those up for re-election are Senators Nancy Binay, Grace Poe, Cynthia Villar, Sonny Angara and JV Ejercito from the majority bloc and Senator Bam Aquino from the minority group.
