Gong Yoo won the Best Drama Actor award at the 2017 Baeksang Art Awards for his role in his 2016 Korean drama, “Goblin,” from tvN. The series was nominated for Best Drama but tvN’s “Dear My Friends” bagged the trophy for that category. Meanwhile, Park Bo Gum and Kim Yoo Jung of KBS’ “Moonlight Drawn By Clouds” won the Star Century Popularity Award. The ceremony was held on May 3 in South Korea.
Gong Yoo wins Best Drama Actor at 53rd Baeksang Art Awards
Soon after enjoying Gong Yoo’s exemplary acting performance in “Train to Busan,” the actor’s fans once again enjoyed his remarkable acting skills in the hit Korean drama “Goblin.” It premiered in South Korea in December last year. Gong Yoo gave an impressive performance as Kim Shin, the titular goblin. His leading lady, Kim Go-eun, was the goblin bride. The supporting cast members include pop idol Lee Dong-wook as Wang Yeo, the former king who became a Grim Reaper; Yoo In-na as Kim Sun, the goblin’s sister; and Yook Sung-jae as Yoo Deok-hwa, the current heir of Gong’s corporate empire.
The Baeksang Art Awards is considered as Korea’s version of America’s Golden Globe Awards. In his speech, Gong apologized to his mother for his busy schedule. Gong got emotional when he shared with the audience that his mother had felt he has become someone else’s son. Gong then thanked his mom in his speech and expressed his love for her. During the ceremony, Park Bo Gum was caught on cam cheering enthusiastically for Gong Yoo when he was declared the winner.
Gong Yoo won against these other popular nominees for the Baeksang Best Actor award: “Chief Kim” actor Namgoong Min, “Moonlight Drawn By Clouds” actor Park Bogum, “Jealousy Incarnate” actor Jo Jung Seok and “Romantic Doctor Kim” actor Han Seok Kyu.
Meanwhile, “Oh Hae Young” actress Seo Hyun Jin won the Best Drama Actress award, beating “Goblin” actress Kim Go Eun, “On The Way To The Airport” actress Kim Ha Neul, “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” actress Park Bo Young and “Doctors” actress Park Shin Hye.
The other “Best Drama” nominees bested by “Dear My Friends” were “W,” “Moonlight Drawn by Clouds” and “Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim.”
Gong Yoo has just returned to South Korea after a successful fan event in Taiwan over the weekend. In the Philippines, fans are looking forward to watching “Goblin” as ABS-CBN has earlier reported it has acquired the rights to air the dubbed series on the Kapamilya network.
