Google writes off $112,000 bill of 12-year-old Spanish kid

Google writes off $112,000 bill of 12-year-old Spanish kid

A 12-year-old kid from Spain had owed Google $112,000 for mistakenly believing that he would earn money from advertisements. Google has decided to cancel the bill upon realizing that a kid had run Google AdWords without fully understanding how it works.

What is Google AdWords?

Google defines Google AdWords as a digital marketing tool that enables the target market to find a business owner’s products and services. This system involves keyword selection to reach consumers who are typing related terms via Google search.

To sign up for a Google AdWords account, users must enter their email address and the domain name of the website being promoted.

Kid wants to be rich YouTuber, gets $112,000 Google AdWords bill

A Yahoo report said the kid, Jose Javier, was from Torrevieja, a city in Alicante. He opened a Google advertising account to promote music videos. He managed Google AdWords for two months until his bill mounted up to $112,00.

Inma Quesada, the boy’s mother, told local newspaper El Pais that his son wanted to make money off YouTube. He reportedly said he wanted to be a “rich YouTuber.” He had no idea, however, that he was going to be billed a huge amount of money in such a short amount of time.

Jose’s parents learned of the situation when the bank he linked to his Google AdWords account sent a notice about Google’s bill.

Yahoo has confirmed that Google studied Jose’s case and concluded the bill should be written off.
