Will Hayao Miyazaki Finish His Secret Studio Ghibli Movie?

osAward-winning animation wizard Hayao Miyazaki may not be able to finish his secret animated movie with Studio Ghibli, if recent reports are true. Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki recently cast doubt on whether Miyazaki will be able to finish by 2020.

According to a Movie Pilot report, Suzuki shared during the Niconico Choukaigi convention that he is unsure his friend will be finished with the pet project while he is still alive.

Hayao Miyazaki: Hard At Work On His Secret Movie

In November last year, Miyazaki surprised fans when he announced that he was coming out of retirement to work again. This comes after his also surprising retirement in 2013.

He shared what he was currently working on with the studio – a short animated film called Boro The Caterpillar. Reports say that this is Miyazaki’s first computer-generated animation project. As most fans know, he always preferred the tedious hand-drawing process in his previous films.

According to Movie Pilot, Boro is already done and will be shown at Ghibli Museum in Tokyo in July.  Miyazaki is reported to be hard at work on his full length feature film. Suzuki however revealed that only 20 minutes worth of drawing has been done, according to a Comic Book report.

Hayao Miyazaki As Never-Ending Man

In related news. fans will be happy to hear that a documentary about the great animator will be released soon. Entitled Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki, the film was made by NHK World TV and is directed by Kaku Arakawa.

It follows Miyazaki’s life as creator and animator, right after he announced his retirement in 2013. According to Indie Wire, Arakawa saw first hand how Miyazaki “makes himself and everyone who works for the film contribute 100 per cent.”

NHK World TV has shared a trailer of the documentary which will be aired in Japan on June 3 and 4. There is no information as to whether the film will be broadcast outside of Japan.
