High Potential Will Be Your New Favorite Series, Here’s Why:

High Potential

Fresh off its season finale, a show you might want to consider watching is ABC’s High Potential. The show follows Morgan Gillory, played by Kaitlin Olson, a “high potential” individual due to her fascinatingly high IQ, as she navigates her new job as a police consultant for the LAPD. It’s based on the French series “HPI,” which ran back in 2021.

Not Your Conventional Detective Show

With detective shows left and right, High Potential provides a fresh take into the field with its main character  – Morgan Gillory. Morgan is a cleaning lady who is discovered to be helpful in solving cases because of her high IQ- that plot alone already sparks curiosity and excitement. Aside from that, Morgan’s quirky character seems to bring light into the bullpen with her witty remarks, ultimately bringing humor to a heavy theme that delves into murder and crime.

Eccentric Main Character

Having a high IQ isn’t Morgan’s most interesting character trait. It’s a fact that she’s a present and loving mother to three kids. Oftentimes, smart characters are pegged to be nonchalant or inexpressive of their feeling; High Potential’s Morgan, however, is like a breath of fresh air to the smarties category. Aside from that, another thing to love about her is that she’s a SHE. Don’t you just love to see feminine icons on the screen?

Morgan’s entry into the bullpen wasn’t easily accepted by some of their peers, and that wasn’t a secret, especially for Alex Karadec (Daniel Sunjata). However, when Karadec warmed up to her (which only took one episode, by the way), everything felt cozy. Aside from that, the show puts a big spotlight on Morgan’s love for her family. Seeing Morgan create a genuine friendship with her colleagues and her warm role as a mother makes the show lighter to watch.

Maybe a Slow-burn Romance?

Every show’s gotta have a slice of romance in it, and High Potential is hinting at something for Morgan and Karadec. We don’t have much going on between them right now, but everyone can feel it! They’re bound to see each other romantically with them as partners, right?

The cases are actually challenging to solve for viewers, making the hunt more intriguing. High Potential details just how interesting Morgan’s mind works when solving crime, making the reveals more shocking each time. Delving into Morgan’s struggles, the show also highlights an overarching mystery behind the sudden disappearance of Morgan’s ex-boyfriend, Roman, about which we get tidbits every time an episode ends with Lieutenant Selena Soto’s (Judy Reyes) help.

Each episode opens up with a different case with different victims and offenders- but these aren’t just cases. High Potential finds a way to humanize these supposedly simple cases by going deeper into the emotional aspect of their circumstances. The series gives more perspective in a way that shows how the environment of both victim and offender is affected. Each episode of High Potential finishes with a crucial life lesson, emphasizing that things aren’t always black and white.

Get Ready for Season 2!

If you’re already hooked, we hope you’re willing to wait, as ABC confirmed the show’s renewal for Season 2! The upcoming season will undoubtedly be worth the wait, featuring new cases and a cliffhanger about the Roman situation. In the meantime, unwind and enjoy the first season of High Potential, available on ABC, Hulu, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video.
