Hotel Supreme Baguio is one of the pioneering hotels in the Summer Capital of the Philippines. This three-star hotel offers world-class accommodations and facilities for every kind of guest – business travelers, couples, families, big or small. It is also a favorite venue for big seminars, conventions and special events such as weddings. Baguio-born and raised folks can attest to this hotel’s popularity, as many a wedding or debut have been held here.

On January 29 and 30, the hotel invited a group of bloggers and social media influencers to rediscover what the hotel has to offer. This included a Food Crawl of the hotel’s four food outlets. What follows is Pilipinas Popcorn’s food experience during the food crawl. All in all, the hotel offers almost everything for every kind of craving.

Chinese and International Choices at Lotus House and Ivy’s Grill

One of the owners of Hotel Supreme, Mrs. Evelyn Ng, goes by the nickname Ivy. She grew up with a small farming family in La Trinidad where cooking was an important part of everyday life. Not only that, but she also learned that this was one of the best ways to show one’s love for one’s family – by cooking the best dishes for them.

When the Ng couple established the hotel, it was but natural for Mrs. Ivy Ng to cook and manage the restaurant operations. Ivy’s Grill and Lotus House were the first food outlets they opened. Both restaurants are located at the hotel’s Phase 1 building.

Ivy’s Grill serves up Filipino and international dishes while Lotus House offers a wide range of traditional Chinese dishes. During the food crawl, we sampled a lauriat of dishes which was served at the quintessential Margarita Hall.

First up was the classic Hot and Sour Soup, which was a delightful explosion of spicy and sour in your mouth. Personally, I liked to have this soup whenever I am feeling under the weather as it instantly picks me up.

On to the entrees. With another Chinese classic Yangchow Fried Rice, we enjoyed the very tasty Thai Fried Chicken. The Braised Beef with Black Mushrooms was tender to the bite and extra flavorful. Their Chowmien was equally delectable and definitely not your usual noodle dish.

Their seafood dishes also did not disappoint. My personal favourite was the Fried Prawns in Chili Garlic Sauce. The prawns were big and were seasoned properly. The Steamed Lapu-Lapu in Ginger Leek Sauce is another traditional Chinese dish which we were lucky to have. The delicate flavour of the fish came out perfectly paired with the ginger and leek sauce.

A lauriat would not be complete without dessert. We ended the wonderful meal with a bowl (in my case, two) of Almond Gelatin with Lychees. Talk about sweet endings.

Coffee and Dessert Fix at Gloria Jeans Coffees

Coffee lovers will not be left wanting when they stay at Hotel Supreme. The Australian coffee chain, Gloria Jeans Coffees, is the hotel’s coffee outlet. Located at the lobby of the Hotel Supreme Convention Center, it not only serves your favourite espresso-based drinks and blended drinks. A local bakeshop supplies the café’s cakes and pastries.

Their Cappuccino rivals the taste of that from any other high-end coffee shop. It is a creamy and frothy balance of espresso and milk – yum! They also have the usual espresso-based drinks like macchiato, latte and the very Australian Flat White.

Among the pastries we sampled were the Lemon Tart, the Chocolate Ganache Cake, and the Japanese Cheesecake. A personal favourite was the Lemon Tart, which would have been perfect with a cup of tea, but also paired well with my Cappuccino. The Japanese Cheesecake was a lighter version of the cheesecake that we know. For a non-dessert lover like me, I liked it because it was not too sweet. The Chocolate Ganache was moist and is perfect for those who are sweet tooths.

Gloria Jean’s also get a plus point for serving coffee in ceramic mugs and cups, rather than the usual paper cups. They only resort to paper cups when you order take out. Otherwise, you get to enjoy your coffee and do your own bit to save the environment!

More Than Your Ordinary Diner: Future Diner

Perhaps another well-kept secret of the hotel is Future Diner, which will satisfy anyone’s craving for comfort food. This food outlet is located at the far end of the lobby of the new building, waiting for foodies to discover it.

Most Baguio folks associate diner food to a more popular restaurant found all over the city. Future Diner, however, has its own takes on classic diner food like burgers, pizza, pasta, and fried chicken.

Their Fried Chicken was juicy and well-flavored, which was served with gravy and real potato fries. An order is good enough for two hungry diners thus the name Twin Pack. I will choose this over that other popular fried chicken anytime.

If you are craving for something out of the ordinary, then their Mango Blast or mango pizza should be on your order list. This dessert pizza loaded with thin slices of sweet mango on a base of sweet cream is definitely out of this world.

In the pasta department, you will not go wrong with their Seafood Plasma, which is their version of a Seafood Marinara. Any seafood lover would be thrilled with the tomato-based marinara sauce with loads of shrimp and squid. Is your mouth watering yet?

They call their bacon burger the Half Moon. You can definitely taste the bacon bits as you bite in the burger. Savor it with a side of real potato fries – need I say more?

Aside from the mango pizza, they also have what they call the Launch Pad which is essentially a beautifully arranged bowl of fresh fruits. The assortment of fruits may change depending on what fruits are in season.

Future Diner also has a wide variety of fruit shakes, milkshakes, blended drinks and ice cream concoctions to choose from.
