Over the weekend, Facebook announced in a post that it would be giving users the opportunity to celebrate love and diversity through a special Rainbow Pride reaction which is made available until the end of June. The Rainbow Pride emoji becomes a more significant year compared to the others as this follows the death of the rainbow flag maker Gilbert Baker who passed away in March. Gay Pride or LGBTQ Pride is a stance people all over the world take to fight discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. It’s history dates back to June 28, 1969, in New York City when a group of LGBTQ rioted following a police raid at a gay bar on Christopher Street. That year, a resolution was made at the Eastern Regional Conference of Homophile Organizations (ERCH)) in Philadelphia to make the last Saturday of June a chance to commemorate the 1969 incident. It was called Christopher Street Liberation Day. Numerous groups and individuals joined in on planning the march every year like Brenda Howard in 1970. Brenda is known as the Mother Of Pride. She is famous for her work in coordinating a week-long series of events around Pride Day. It was because of Brenda and other select individuals that “Pride Day” was born. They are also the reason why Pride celebrations are now held around the world every June. How to get that Rainbow Pride Reaction on Facebook On Friday, June 9, Facebook posted an announcement about a special reaction made available to celebrate Pride month.
