Jennylyn Mercado, Tom Rodriguez, and Mark Herras will star in GMA’s new drama “The Cure” in the Telebabad line up. The drama is directed by Mark A. Reyes and will premiere in April. With its initial announcement in January, only a few things have been revealed. But, here are five things we know so far.
5 Things About GMA’s ‘The Cure’
1.”The Cure” was ready since 2013
It took five years before “The Cure” materialized. This upcoming Philippine television drama series was already part of the 2013 line up of GMA’s programs. There were rumors saying that Alden Richards and Louise De Los Reyes will star in the show but it never happened due to management’s decision as reported by PEP. Alden and Louise starred in another drama project “Ang Mundo Mo’y Akin” instead in 2013.
Since then, no updates were given to the public. It was only in January when GMA announced that the drama will finally be released in April.
2.Powerhouse cast
“The Cure” features the ultimate star Jennylyn Mercado and Kapuso Leading Man Tom Rodriguez. Joining them are LJ Reyes, Mark Herras, Ken Chan, Arra San Agustin, and award-winning actress, Ms. Jacklyn Jose.
This will be the first time for Ken and Arra to work together. Arra’s most noted role was when she replaced Kylie Padilla in the requel of “Encantadia.” Ken, on the other hand, worked with Barbie Forteza in “Meant To Be.”
3. Jennylyn Mercado and Tom Rodriguez team-up
It has been two years since Jennylyn and Tom were paired as a love team. They were first paired in GMA’S Lenten special entitled “Pagsubok” last 2016.
Tom is Gregory Salvador in “The Cure.” He will play the role of a Clinical Research Associate in an International Pharmaceutical Laboratory. In an interview with Lhar Santiago of Chika Minute, he said that he is very happy with his new role especially that it is related to science. He added that maybe he can apply all his personal interests in Chemistry in his new character.
Jennylyn, on the other hand, plays as the wife of Tom. She will help her husband in finding the solution to a mysterious disease that is rapidly spreading in their town.
4. Reunion project of former love team Jennylyn and Mark Herras
Mark Herras is one of the stars of “The Cure.” He will work with his ex-girlfriend Jennylyn Mercado. Their last teleserye together was the 2014 drama series “Rhodora X.” Prior to the cure, they were also cast in a special episode of “Dear Uge” in 2017.
Jennylyn and Mark were the ultimate male and female survivors of Starstruck in January 2004. And after winning the show, they were included in several teleseryes of GMA like “Forever in My Heart” and “Joyride” in 2004, “Encantadia” in 2005, and “I Luv NY” in 2006.
The two, however, separated ways in 2006 when they got their solo projects and were paired with other Kapuso artists.
After Jennylyn gave birth, she once again worked with Mark in the drama “Paano Ba Ang Mangarap” in 2009.
In an interview with GMA, Mark said that they still don’t have a scene together since he’s currently taping with the other casts of the show, namely Arra San Agustin and Ken Chan while Jennylyn is with Tom Rodriguez for their own scenes. He assured however that as the drama progresses, there will come a time wherein he and Jen will be seen acting together.
5.Drama and Suspense Genre
The Cure is all about a group of people trying to find a solution after zombies infested their town. A mysterious disease will spread and one family (Jennylyn and Tom) will fight against that epidemic.
With the drama’s genre, it seems that it will bring different kinds of emotion to the viewer’s, knowing that Filipinos are also a fan of zombie-related topics.
“The Cure” is set to premiere in April. Meanwhile, Jennylyn Mercado and Tom Rodriguez will be at SM City Davao on March 16 at 4 pm to promote their new series during the Kapuso Mall Show.
