If you think you’re strong enough not to shed a tear for commercials, think again. Five days before this year’s day of hearts, fast food giant Jollibee released three of the most tear-jerking commercial advertisements social media has ever witnessed. These commercials have instantly gone viral and gave people something to talk about on social media.
Viral Jollibee Commercials
The initial two-minute short films centered on romantic relationships, except for glaring differences in the story plot. The first film, entitled “Vow”, introduces two typical best friends seemingly in love and about to undertake the most important ceremony of their relationship- or so people think. As the events progressed, it reveals their sugary sweet flashbacks featuring, of course, Jollibee products. Seconds before the ad ends, we are brought back to the matrimonial ceremony- but it’s not for the both of them. It’s for his best friend and her lover.
Here come the waterworks! Obviously, this Bee-chef is trying to catch people off-guard with its first film, and it was effective. But if you watched the music video Molly by Lil Dicky feat. Brendon Urie, then it may not have been quite the surprise for you as they have the same plot.
On the same day, the second film entitled “Crush” was also released. It seems like Jollibee is trying to make up for having millions cry and is now giving the crowd an adorable smile-tugging film- with post-its and burgers. A day later, what was believed to be the finale of these meet cute Jollibee commercials was finally released. Back to wiping snot under your noses!
The final Jollibee commercial, “The Date,” pulled a different string from the heart- the one about family. With this different approach, Jollibee reminds us that Valentine’s day is for sharing love- in all forms.
Jollibee Commerical Real life for Martin Cervantes
For all those who cried for feeling a sense of sympathy, there’s a few out there who felt an ‘uncanny similarity.’ To name one, ABS-CBN introduces Martin Cervantes. According to him, watching the commercial and sensing the resemblance from his past experience hit him hard.
Like the commercial, Martin was invited to the wedding as the commentator of his best friend-slash-former love of his life. He also recalls being in a seat with the ‘best view’ of his old flame. This has certainly hurt a lot of ‘bestfriendzoned’ individuals like Martin, but he comments that “love will find its way.”
Watch and weep.
