There isn’t any place without K-Pop!  It’s one of the hottest leading genres out there. From the trending female groups like BLACKPINK, Girls’ Generation, and TWICE to the captivating male groups like BTS, and EXO you are bound to know at least one of their hits and will maybe even find yourself singing to one of those songs. So if you’re not a K-Pop fan yet, well these groups might turn you into one.

What’s in and What’s not

1. Blackpink

BLACKPINK with members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa made their debut on August 18, 2016. They are famous for their mega-hit single “Ddu-Du-Ddu-Du” that earned 808 million views on YouTube and their most recent hit ‘Kill This Luv’ which broke the record for the most viewed music video for a Korean girl band. BLACKPINK will be in Taguig City, Philippines for their International Tour on June 6.

2. BTS

Also known as ‘Bangtan Boys’ members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook formed their group in 2013. BTS is most famous for their Guinness World Record for the most Twitter engagements. They were also named the Most Influential People of 2019 by Time 100. In April 2019, BTS released their latest single ‘Boy With Luv’ which debuted number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, the highest in history for a Korean group. For six years, BTS has never lost its touch and is still continuing their journey.

3. Girls’ Generation

Originally a nine-member group, Girls’ Generation also known as SNSD consists of eight members Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona, and Seohyun. Girls’ Generation has popular hits like “Gee” earned them various awards since their debut in 2007, earning them nicknames such as ‘The Nation’s Girl Group’ and ‘The Nation’s Singers’. On August 7, 2017, Girls’ Generation released their album ‘Holiday Night’, before some of the members embarked on their solo careers.

4. EXO

A South Korean-Chinese boy band formed in 2011 who debuted their first single in 2012. EXO, also known as the Kings of K-Pop, are formed by members Xiumin, Suho, Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O, Kai, and Sehun. EXO’s first album XOXO that came out in 2013 sold out like hotcakes, making them Korea’s best selling artists for years. EXO’s latest fifth album, ‘Don’t Mess Up My Tempo’ which was released on November 2, 2018, made EXO ‘quintuple million sellers’ in the media.

 5. Twice

TWICE, a Korean girl group made their first debut on October 20, 2015, but made it official on June 28, 2018 with their first album #Twice. The group is formed by members Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. On April 22, Twice released their single ‘Fancy You’, that made twice the best selling Korean group of all time with a total of 3,750,00 copies sold.

 6. Seventeen

A group consisting of thirteen members namely S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino. They started in 2015 and have earned their reputation as a ‘self-producing’ idol group with members specializing in different aspects, contributing to the group. In January 21, 2019, Seventeen released their album ‘You Made My Dawn’, making it the group’s best-sold release to date.
