Contrary to an earlier announcement that the Golden Disc Awards 2018 will be held in Manila, local production company All Access Production has announced that the awards will not push through. It added that the awards, which is also dubbed as the “Korean Grammys,” will instead be held in Korea.
According to a Philippine Star report, the cancellation is due to the local investors “failure to comply with their responsibility to the owner of the original Golden Disc Awards (GDA) Ceremony, JTBC Plus.”
No GDA 2018 In Manila
In mid-November, All Access Production (AAP) got Filipino KPop fans excited when they announced that the awards will happen right here in Manila on Jan. 10 and 11.
In preparation for the event, which is slated at the SM Mall of Asia Area, ticket pre-selling started as early as Nov. 26. In another Philippine Star report, many fans lined up to buy tickets at Eastwood City. Golden Tickets were priced at P25,000 each, while General Admission tickets cost P2,500 each.
The GDA Secretariat however announced via Twitter that the ongoing ticket sales were “not in anyway related” to the awards because the venue has yet to be confirmed. AAP quickly said that they will sort this “misunderstanding” out with JTBC Plus.
Ticket Refunds To Be Worked Out, GDA Wave Instead?
According to a Facebook post by AAP, ticket refund mechanics are still being worked out and will be announced soon.
In an effort to appease fans who already bought their tickets, AAP also announced a special treat to lucky ticket holders. They will be giving away 5 tickets (2-day admission) with airfare to lucky Golden Ticket holders, and 15 tickets (2-day admission) to 15 lucky winners, from those who purchased tickets on Nov. 26.
AAP also mentions the possible holding of a post-GDA event in the Philippines within the first quarter of 2018. According to another Facebook post, the GDA Wave is a “high-level celebration” of GDA winning artists. AAP asks KPop fans to watch out for further announcements.
