5 Reasons Why You Should Check Out ‘Wanna One’

Introducing your next K-pop obsession. While new to the K-pop scene (they officially debuted in August), Wanna One already boasts a reputation as one of the groups to watch out for. The 11 members are literally the best of the best. Don’t believe us? Bae Jinyoung, Ha Sungwoon, Hwang Minhyun, Kang Daniel, Kim Jaehwan, Lai Guanlin, Lee Daehwi, Ong Seongwu, Park Jihoon, Park Woojin, and Yoon Jisung all competed on the show Produce 101.

Hallyu fans out there probably recognize this as the same survival reality show that created the girl group I.O.I. Like their predecessors, the 11 boys came out on top of over 100 candidates to debut as a boy band and embark on their own international concert tour. How amazing is that? But if you’re still not convinced, here are 5 reasons why you should check them out:

Wanna One, 5 Reasons why you should check them out

1. They’re called Super Rookies for a reason

Even before they debuted, Wanna One won the hearts of hundreds of thousands of fans all over the world. This massive fan support has helped them win over more established K-pop groups and sweep music charts. And their success hasn’t gone unnoticed internationally either. Recently, the 2017 MTV Europe Music Awards named Wanna One as one of their nominees for ‘Best Korean Act.’  The boys compete for the coveted award alongside other popular groups like MAMAMOO and G-Friend. Previous Best Korean Act winners include EXO (2013) and BTS (2016).

2. The members are incredibly ‘Energetic’

Wanna One debuted with the single Energetic on August 8. The song went on to top music charts all over Korea. That includes the three big music shows: M Countdown, Show Champion, and Show! Music Core. For the last one, Wanna One won a total of 15 times over the span of a month. That’s huge for a debut song. Only EXO managed to break their streak!

3. They’re also super photogenic

Don’t believe us? Check out the magazines below. Since their debut, Wanna One have had photoshoots with several magazines and brands, including 1st Look Magazine. They even became the new face of the fragrance brand CLEAN.

Daniel also recently became the first male cover model for InStyle magazine. He features in the October issue. If that wasn’t enough, Jihoon and Daniel also ranked in the top two for an online survey for Advertisement Model of the Month (August).

4. And insanely talented

This goes without saying. But those are the facts: Wanna One isn’t just a bunch of pretty faces. While on Produce 101, the members pushed themselves so they could stand out among other talented trainees. They proved themselves to be amazing singers, awesome dancers, and above all – astounding performers. Here the hardworking boys practice the dance for their second single “Burn It Up.”

5. Also: They’re coming to the Philippines this week!

Wanna One will be holding their very first fan meeting “Wanna Be Loved” in Manila on October 13. Fans get a chance to speak with the Super Rookies and maybe even win some merchandise like an autographed CD or exclusive selfie polaroid. Ticket prices cost between 3,000 PHP to 12,000 PHP and can be bought at Ticketnet outlets or online. Are you hyped to see Wanna One?
