Crazy Rich Asians

The “Crazy Rich Asians” official trailer first appeared on The Ellen Show. Ellen de Generes interviewed main stars Constance Wu and Henry Golding. Wu plays Rachel Chu, the Asian raised in the United States of America. Meanwhile, Golding plays Nick Young, an heir to the multi-million wealth of his family based in Singapore.

“Crazy Rich Asians” is a trilogy by the bestselling Asian author, Kevin Kwan. It first came out in 2013. The series then expanded to “China Rich Girlfriend” in 2015. Two years later, its final book “Rich People Problems” came out in 2017. The plot revolves around a love story almost similar to Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton. A royalty meets a commoner and falls in love.

The Crazy ‘Lavish’ Rich Asian Trailer, Where is Kris Aquino?

The trailer offers a “glimpse” of what the fans could expect on the film. It shows a lavish representation of how “rich” the characters really are. It’s safe to say that Wu’s character, Rachel, drowns underneath all the rich people around her.

Nick invites Rachel to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore, where Nick’s family is. At this point, Rachel knows nothing about Nick’s background. All she knows is that he’s a hot guy studying History in NYU. At the airport, Rachel uncovers the truth about Nick. Both are on a business class plane to Singapore.

Rachel confronted Nick about it. Of course, Nick denied being rich. He only said that they’re “comfortable.” Which to Rachel is exactly what a rich person would say. Upon arriving in Singapore, Rachel meets Nick’s mom Michelle Yeoh who plays Eleonor. Yeoh rose to prominence doing films with stunts. Her most notable film is the “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” released in 2000.

Coming from a rich family, Eleonor tests Rachel throughout her stay in Singapore. She intimidates Rachel and makes her feel unwelcome. Rachel soon gives up on her and Nick. But at some point, she challenges Eleonor. “If Nick chose me, he would lose his family. And if he chose his family, he might spend the rest of his life resenting you.”

Kris Aquino, Missing-In-Action

But the question here is… “Where is Kris Aquino?” Last year, Karen Davila interviewed Kevin Kwan himself on her show in ANC Headstart. Davila asked Kwan if Kris Aquino is part of the film’s cast. Kwan answered that she is part of the cast but he is not allowed to reveal which character Aquino will play.

In a recent article from ABS-CBN, Aquino revealed that she will have two scenes in the film. She also said that she will be playing a role of a “princess.” In an article from Inquirer, Aquino revealed that her character is of Bruneian or Malaysian descent.

If you’ve read the book, the only character pointing out to Aquino’s clues is The Sultanate of Borneo. In the book, the character is a princess of a Malay descent. She is also “covered in diamonds from head to toe.” All descriptions point to Aquino becoming royalty soon. But as of press writing, no official reports confirmed Aquino’s role. All these are tiny bits of puzzle making.

“Crazy Rich Asians” premieres on August 17 in the US. Asian release dates are not yet announced.
