Former Ateneo courtside reporter Laura Lehmann was crowned Miss World Philippines 2017 on Sunday, Sept 3. Miss World Philippines 2016 Catriona Gray turned over the crown to Laura in the grand coronation night held at the Mall of Asia Arena. As the titleholder, she won P500,000 in cash, P1M worth of contracts from ALV Talent Circuit, and a movie contract with Regal Films.

Laura was a sportscaster of Ateneo de Manila University during UAAP Season 77 that was televised in ABS-CBN Sports in 2015. While in hosting stints, she took up AB Psychology. She was also a first runner up in the Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant in 2014. In short, this is not the first time she has been in the limelight.

The question and answer portion of the Miss World pageant was the time when Laura brought out the best in her. A GMA report says she addressed those who did not believe in beauty pageants saying, “I would ask them to take a look at the girls tonight because we have lawyers, architects, women of substance who are here not only because of what they look like but because of what’s in their hearts, what’s in their mind, and because what they’ve brought forth beauty with a purpose. they’re helping represent the Philippines and become the best version of the Filipina and for me that’s something only to celebrate.”

Laura is among other pinay crowned beauties. Aside from Laura, Ms. Winwyn Marquez also won the crown that night as Reina Hispano Americana Filipinas. She will compete in “Reina Hispanoamericana”, an annual international beauty contest. Ms. Cynthia Thomalla grabbed the crown as Miss Eco Philippines, while Sophia Senoron won sa Miss Multinational Philippines. Ms. Glyssa Perez and Ms. Zara Carbonell won as the 1st and 2nd Princesses, respectively.
