Liza Soberano is continuously preparing for the film adaptation of the iconic comic character of Mars Ravelo’s “Darna” while working on ABS-CBN’s “Bagani.” Being an iconic Filipino superheroine has put an over-the-head pressure for Liza in giving justice to the character. The pressure has surely pushed her to dig into her capabilities as an actress and as an individual.
5 Preparations Liza Soberano does for Darna
1. Getting Toned
The iconic superheroine, Darna, is stereotypically portrayed from previous productions as sexy, bold, and courageous. On Liza’s coping with the “giving justice” to the role, she instantly had a regular session of fitness training with her personal coach, Bok Santos. Indeed, Liza is not only known as “one of the Philippine television’s pretty faces” but also known as “one of the Philippine’s Top 10 Sexiest for 2017.” Even with the recognition, Liza’s feet are on the ground as she continues to tone her body to not only be fit but to appear strong and fierce for Darna’s successful portrayal.
2. Getting into Action
Darna, as a Filipino superheroine, should always be ready to go into action whenever called into a danger. Although sweet Liza has never had congruent roles to Darna, she is ready to go on stunt training to be able to execute her own stunts, no doubles according to a report by Sunstar. Liza’s typical roles have always been the sweet pretty-faced girl that is so out of the league to Darna’s fierce character. But just like what she said in an interview after getting the first spot on the annual “100 Most Beautiful Faces” post by the TC Candler’s on youtube, “I appreciated it, but sometimes that’s all they notice. I don’t want them to remember me because I’m pretty.” The usual sweet Liza is now fiercer and bolder as she ventures out of her comfort zone as a mature artist.
3. Getting into Rhythm
Learning how to fight will not make you win, learning when to fight will. As Liza takes stunt training, she said she is also going to have dance workshops. The dance workshop will help her enhance her timing skills and will also help her develop gracefulness when moving. Since Darna is not only about being sexy and bold, Liza takes more effort to achieve the charisma of Darna looking graceful as she fights like she’s not into a battle at all.
4. Getting Real
As an actor, the main goal is to get the audience believe that the character exists and get them to sympathize with the character. That is why despite all the achievements of Liza Soberano as an actress, she pushes herself to bring out the best of her best by having more acting workshops.
5. Getting Mature
By means of maturity as an actress, it is not only about the challenge of showing more skin but the challenge of handling bashers and negative criticisms as a public figure. As Liza currently faces conflicts on her current projects- on how deserving she is to have it, she continues to prove herself. “Bagani” and “Darna” are both Filipino identity creations. Although controversies on euro centrism on Liza having roles of “supposedly for morena” and “Filipino” actors arises, she faces these issues the best way she can.
