What else can Mark Zuckerberg not do? Unbelievable. After a year of coding, Mark has succeeded in creating Jarvis – his personal AI assistant that helps him run his home with a sense of humor. What is remarkable about it is that Morgan Freeman (who speaks Chinese) is Jarvis’s voice. A two-minute video was released by Mark through his Facebook account showing how Jarvis works.

Mark Zuckerberg’s Jarvis Is As Personal As Anyone Can Be

Mark’s Personal Butler knows if their daughter has woken up and can help him get ready for work by having a new shirt thrown out from a t-shirt cannon. Jarvis also helps Mark in making toast for breakfast, assists the family in playing music, and also accurately identifies who is at their doorstep. Jarvis can even answer the question, “Who can we tickle next?.” If Mark does not want to really talk, the messenger bot app he created allows him to text Jarvis on what assistance he needs. (Really? So surreal)

Mark says that he is currently experimenting with other voices like Arnold Schwarzenegger’s and who-knows-who’s next. In a comment he posted, the video was meant to be a “fun summary and not a live demo” He also asks viewers to post comments for suggestions and ideas on how to make Jarvis better. (Okay? So that would mean something more awesome and cutting-edge is in the works.)

How And Why Mark Zuckerberg Created Jarvis

Mark published a note through Facebook on December 20 about the challenge he took on for himself in the year 2016 which was to build a “simple AI” to run his home. His goal was to “learn about the state of artificial intelligence.” He envisioned Jarvis in “Iron Man.”

Jarvis can control Mark’s home systems like Crestron, lights, thermostat, doors, Sonos, Spotify, cameras, the toaster and the T-shirt cannon. The user interfaces he uses include the Messenger Bot, iOS Voice App and the Door Camera. The state-of-the-art artificial intelligence systems are language processing, speech recognition and face recognition.

Read all the intricate details and take a look at Mark’s diagram on Jarvis here.

To Mark, building Jarvis was an “interesting intellectual challenge.” He predicts that in five to ten years, AI systems will be more accurate than people for vision, hearing, touch as well as language. Although he says that there is still a long way to go, the AI systems of natural language as well as face and speech recognition, are similar variants of fundamental techniques on pattern recognition. Soon enough AI will be able to do things that most people would expect like driving cars, curing diseases, discovering planets and understanding media. He says that it is those that will “have a great impact on the world” but today, real intelligence is still being figured out.

Mark Zuckerberg continues to look forward to sharing next year’s challenge to the world in a few weeks.
