Latte Art Gone Viral

Latte art has been around for some time now. There is even a World Latte Art Championship held every year, where baristas from all over the world compete. Although Lee Kang Bin has not joined in any of these competitions, he still impresses his patrons and Instagram followers with his work.

His following of over 160,000 gush over his miniature paintings, photos of which he shares regularly on Instagram. Aside from that, he also shares time-lapse videos of some of his creations, such as the Van Gogh painting.

According to Allkpop, he has also been featured in a Korean TV show, where he shows Kpop artist Jeon So Mi how to make cream art. As early as May of this year, international media have heard about Lee and his coffee art.

No Formal Training In The Arts

Lee says he learned coffee making when he was in compulsory military service. He bought his own machine and set up a cafe for his fellow soldiers. According to the Independent, he has never received any formal training in drawing.

The first time he drew Starry Starry Night at his cafe, using an online image as a reference, patrons started requesting it. His customers usually have specific requests for drawings, from Disney and other characters and other paintings or drawing. All he needs is 15 minutes and he will create ‘cream art’ for you for 10,00o won (about $8.71 US dollars) a cup.
