For the longest time, people have been fascinated with celestial and sky events. Aside from shooting stars and comets, the moon is one heavenly body that never fails to mesmerize. More so when it appears in the sky as a supermoon, a blue moon and a blood moon in one. Jan. 31 marks the day when the whole world witnessed the moon as a supermoon blue blood moon.

What Is A Supermoon Blue Blood Moon?

A supermoon is a frequent occurrence, with at least one in a year. This happens everytime a full or new moon is nearest to the Earth. During a supermoon, it appears bigger than a regular full moon. The last time a supermoon appeared was on Jan. 2, 2018. In 2017, there was a supermoon on Dec. 3.

A blue moon is the term used to describe a second full moon that occurs within a month. Because the last full moon was on Jan. 2, this full moon on Jan. 31 is called a blue moon.

Finally, a moon is called a blood moon during a total lunar eclipse, because the moon takes on a reddish tinge during the total eclipse. Unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are much slower and can last for up to an hour.
