Among the 83 candidates for this year’s prestigious beauty title with the theme “Empowered to Make a Change,” Katherine has reigned supreme. Also, Miss Columbia won the title of Miss Earth Air, Miss Venezuela won Miss Earth Water, and Miss Brazil won Miss Earth Fire. Each candidate was featured speaking about their passions and convictions about nature and the environment with a montage of their national costume and an aerial view of their country. Their dance to “That’s My Girl” wowed the crowd each time they would gracefully present their rendition after each segment of the video. Hosts Marc Nelson, Rovilson Fernandez Announce Miss Earth 2016 Special Awards The Grand Environmental event is hosted by the Philippines’ very own Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez. They have mentioned that this year’s batch of candidates are the most-traveled, visiting the Philippines’ bio-diversity spots. They then segued announcing the night’s special awards below. Right after, the stage lit up with the colorful traditional costumes and dance routines of Davao. Each contestant walked in with such elegant poise and grace wearing swimsuits designed by Ricky Abad. After all the ladies showed their bubbly and sunny personalities, the atmosphere mellowed down instantly as the lights dimmed out while soft elegant music began playing in the background. Upon each entrance, a sense of serenity and impeccable admiration can be felt. It is one of the three largest beauty pageants in the world. The winner of Miss Earth is the spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation which is the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) along with other environmental organizations. The title holder will dedicate her year to promote prjects that address environmental and global issues through tours in school, street campaigns, coastal clean ups, speaking engagements, media guesting, environmental fair, eco-fashion shows and other environmental activities. Miss Ecuador Katherine Espin won gold, Miss Venezuela Stephanie de Zorzi got the silver award, and Miss USA Corrin Julia Stellakis got the bronze award. Other early winners include Macau’s Clover Zhu who was named Miss Versailles during the Talent and Swimsuit competitions on October 23.
