“Robbed Motherhood” is the title of the two-part story of Maalaala Mo Kaya that shows on May 20 and May 27. It tells the story of motherhood lost when the youngest son of a family gets kidnapped by a woman, also a mother, who demands a ransom. The episode stars Angel Locsin, Dimples Romana and Dominic Ochoa.
Dimples is the hardworking mother, Idai whose son was kidnapped by Roma (Angel Locsin). Dominic Ochoa is Alfredo, the husband of Idai and father to their three children. MMK Robbed Motherhood is directed by Nuel Crisostomo Naval and written by Benson Logronio and Arah Jell Badayos.
MMKRobbedMotherhood: A Tale of Two Mothers
Teresa “Idai” Romero is a hardworking mother. She got this from her parents who did the same thing while they were growing up. The family struggled financially and specially that the needs began escalating, Idai’s mother, Flor, went to Manila to hopefully earn more. This caused the separation of Idai’s parents leaving her with the responsibility of taking care of her family. Sadly, she was deprived of her childhood and forced to mature. To survive, she sold ice candy and other local delicacies for her siblings. She vowed that her life will never be like this if she is to have her own family in the future.
When Idai was old enough, she, too worked in Manila as a house help. There, she was reunited with her mother and they both live together for some time. Soon enough, when Idai was 17, she had a family of her own with 22-year-old Alfredo. They have four children together – 10-year-old Anthony, Rosalinda (8), six-year-old Charlie and the youngest son, Christopher who is only two years old. Idai and Alfredo do their best to raise their family and live a comfortable life. However, their home was shaken when Christopher was abducted by a woman named Roma, a Muslim mother from Binondo, Manila.
MMK Robbed Motherhood deals with the serious effects of abduction and kidnap-for-ransom cases in the Philippines. The homes seeking justice for having lost their beloved family members to kidnapping is a present reality. Over the next two saturdays, MMK will bring this societal concern to life in the hope that this serious issue be alleviated so that homes will be made complete again.
Maalaala Mo Kaya airs right after “The Voice Teens” every Saturday at ABS-CBN.
