Maymay Entrata, the Pinoy Big Brother Lucky 7 Winner, is on the spotlight of the March 25 episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya. Behind her wit and entertaining sense of humor, Maymay has a deeper story to tell. Hers is about endurance and resilience amidst the struggles of growing up without the love of a father and the comfort of a mother. It was her grandfather who practically raised her and when he passed away, life begins to become extremely difficult for her. She only had her dreams to keep her going.
Growing Up is Hard to Do
Maymay’s mother worked in Japan for many years, so the mother and daughter did not share a lot of moments growing up. To make things more complicated, she has never met her father. When she was a year old, he left her to grow up with her grandparents.
Her grandmother was loving and strict at the same time while her grandfather was the funny one. This is where Maymay got her sense of humor. Even if her parents were not with her, she always felt that sense of home with her grandparents.
Entertainment is Maymay’s Solace
As Maymay grew up, she found herself very interested in dancing and singing. She would join school contests just to perform. The stage lit up her life every single time.
At home, she is a die hard fan of certain celebrities. The world of entertainment is one thing that inspired her to look beyond her reality.
Sickness Befalls upon Maymay’s home
In college, Maymay decides to work doubly hard to help her struggling family. Ever since her grandfather collapsed because of his heart condition, she put the responsibility of giving her family a better life upon her shoulders.
She juggled university studies, her choir organization and a part time job to do this. Her choir membership helped her study through a scholarship. She strived hard.
Maymay Gets a Big Break through Pinoy Big Brother
Striving did not last too long for Maymay. When she was called in to be part of this year’s housemates for Pinoy Big Brother, things started turning up. She was finally able to raise enough for her family. However, while shooting PBB, her grandfather dies tragically due to complications.
She then felt like her world was literally falling apart. Although she first refused to go back as a contestant after the mishap, she decided to go on with it for the sake of her family. Everything paid off when she won PBB Season 7.
