Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (May 9)
This urban mystery film is star-studded film featuring actors Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Suki Waterhouse, Omar Chaparro, Chris Geere, Ken Watanabe, and Bill Nighy among others. It tells the story of a former Pokemon trainer in Ryme City named Tim Goodman who meets a talking Pikachu that used to belong to his father, Harry Goodman. Harry went missing after a terrible accident so when Tim and Detective Pikachu meet, they investigate to find Harry. They are helped by Lucy Stevens and her Psyduck.
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (May 15)
Keanu Reeves returns in his epic role as John Wick in this neo-noir action thriller. John Wick 3 is the third installment in the John Wick film series. In Chapter 3, super-assassin John Wick is the target of hitmen everywhere after killing going against the rules and killing a member of the International Assassin’s Guild. Halle Berry, Laurence Fishburne, Mark Dacascos, Asia Kate Dillon, Lance Reddick, Anjelica Huston and Ian McShane also star alongside Keanu.
UglyDolls (May 15)
UglyDolls is an animated musical film that packs a sense of humor. It is about some happy-go-lucky UglyDolls who want nothing else than to be loved after realizing that they are different from the others. The film stars the voices of Ice-T, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, Pitbull, Wanda Sykes, Emma Roberts, Leehom Wang, Gabriel Iglesias and more.
Between Maybes (May 15)
“Between Maybes” star Julia Barretto and Gerald Anderson. The film tells the story of Hazel and Louie. Hazel (Barretto) is an actress who is going through some rough roads in her career. She then meets a son of an OFW (Louie) who is deported from Japan. As their first film together, Pinoy fans have much to expect.
Kuwaresma (May 15)
Mega Star, Ms. Sharon Cuneta, stars in this horror film. The movie is about a family that is haunted by the ghost of their youngest daughter. When Ms. Cuneta was interviewed about her role, she said that “Kuwaresma” is the most challenging film so far. The last time she starred in a horror flick was about four decades ago. Her major comeback in the genre is surely anticipated by many Pinoy cinema buffs.
Aladdin (May 22)
“Aladdin” is a live action remake of Disney’s 1992 film of the same name based on a folktale from “One Thousand and One Nights.” The movie also pays tribute to Robin Williams, the voice of Genie back in 1992. “Aladdin” is directed by Guy Ritchie and it stars Will Smith, Naomi Scott, Marwan Kenzari, Navid Negahban, Nasim Pedrad, and Billy Magnussen.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile (May 22)
This biopic tells the story of the notorious serial killer named Ted Bundy from the point of view of his former flame, Liz. The film is also based on the memoir, “The Phantom Prince: My Life with Ted Bundy” by Elizabeth Kendall. Ted Bundy is played by Zac Efron while Lily Collins plays the role of Elizabeth Kendall, Bundy’s former girlfriend who is also called “Liz.”
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (May 30)
As the 35th film in the Godzilla franchise, “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” is the sequel to the 2014 movie, “Godzilla.” In this movie, Monarch, the crypto-zoological agency, goes head-to-head against supersized monsters including Godzilla. Godzilla, in turn, also goes against Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah – his ultimate archenemy.
