The most sought-after romantic drama of Asia is about to throw another wave of nostalgia unto the continent– and maybe even the whole globe! The 2001 Taiwanese soap opera ‘Meteor Garden’ is inching its way into your screens. Find out what original creator Angie Chai has installed for this anticipated remake.
Prepare to get your heart racing, because this is going to awaken more than a decade-long feeling of kilig, heartbreak, and joy. So far, this is what we know about the ‘Meteor Garden’ remake:
‘Meteor Garden’ 2018: Things You Should Know
1. There are 48 episodes. Oh yes, this isn’t just a remake that’ll serve as another fad of the season. This is going to be a real dive into the old ‘flower amongst the thorns’ kind of feel. And it’s gonna make a mark. The 2001 version of Meteor Garden had only 19 episodes. Meanwhile, the Korean version ‘Boys Over Flowers’ had 25 episodes. Finally, the Japanese version ‘Hana Yori Dango’ had 9 episodes. All of which had an average duration of 45 minutes each episode.
While there hasn’t been official information about how long each episode is going to last, we’re hoping that producers still keep the pattern. It won’t just double the duration, this could mean a longer, more complex storyline.
2. It’s gonna be ‘fuller, flashier’ and more… modernized? In the social media network Weibo, producer Angie Chai’s posted: “On April 12, 2001, 16 years ago, Meteor Garden premiered and it was the beginning of a beautiful dream… Yes! Meteor Garden is being remade! An all-new Meteor Garden belonging to your youth!”
Now avid viewers of the series would know that every remake has its own interpretation, own unique storytelling to the manga series ‘Hana Yori Dango.’ But it seems that this particular new version is going to feel more ‘millenial.’ Who knows, we may be seeing them with smartphones, an F4 group chat, online bullying?
3. Still an Adaption from the books. While some may be expecting a totally updated version of the story, be rest assured that it’s still deeply rooted in the original narrative. We will still have the humble outcast, the four ridiculously handsome bullies, and the prestigious school where the story will likewise begin in. There’s gonna be a change in details here and there, but hopefully, it sticks to the story we all fell in love with in the 2000s.
