Meet The Meteor Garden Remake Cast: Shan Cai And The F4

The new Chinese Meteor Garden remake finally reveals its gorgeous cast! The upcoming reboot, based on Angie Chai’s popular Japanese manga “Hana Yori Dango,” is set to debut in 2018. Chai hints that it’s an updated version of the first Meteor Garden series that made waves in the Philippines in the early 2000s. The series held auditions in universities across the world, interviewing over 30,000 applicants for the roles.

Rookie actress Shen Yue won the role of spunky heroine Shan Cai. Her F4 will be played by other rookies: Darren Chen, Connor Leong, Caesar Wu, and Dylan Wang. The boys revealed themselves to the world by landing on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar China. The series kept fans guessing on which actor would play which F4 member, but a press conference today finally revealed their roles.

Meteor Garden 2018 Cast

1. Caesar Wu as Xi Men

First, we have Caesar Wu, who replaces Ken Chu as Xi Men. Described as a fun-loving playboy, Xi Men often landed himself in trouble because of his antics with women. (And their furious boyfriends.) Caesar definitely looks the part of a cool, confident playboy. The 21-year-old from Shen Zhen, China was cast as an unknown and Meteor Garden is his first project.

2. Connor Leong as Mei Zuo

Connor Leong plays the other playboy of the group Mei Zuo, replacing Vanness Wu. Mei Zuo acts as the F4’s joker but is unflinchingly loyal to his friends. 23-year-old Connor comes from Guangdong Province, China, and doubles as a model-actor. Truthfully, he looks a bit too serious to fit the joker role, but maybe he’ll lighten up when the series starts.

3. Darren Chen as Hua Ze Lei

Darren Chen plays F4’s second-in-command Hua Ze Lei, taking on the role from Vic Zhou. Quiet but kind, he acts as Shan Cai’s protector and later falls in love with her. This puts him at odds with best friend Dao Ming Si, temporarily straining their relationship. Darren is 22 and comes from Taipei, Taiwan. He recently played the second lead in the web series Proud of Love. Darren’s cute, charming looks set him apart from how Hua Ze Lei is usually portrayed as someone cold and aloof.

4. Dylan Wang as Dao Ming Si

The leader of the F4! The youngest of the rookies, 19-year-old Dylan Wang takes on the lead role of Dao Ming Si from Jerry Yan. Known for his legendary temper, Dao Ming Si at first looks down on Shan Cai for defying him. Eventually, he learns to respect her and later confesses his love. Dylan hails from Chengdu City in China and previously starred on the Chinese reality show Idol Star! He definitely looks like he has Dao Ming Si’s confidence.

5. And Shen Yue as Shan Cai

Finally, the show’s heroine! Shen Yue stars as fiery, hardworking Shan Cai, who endures torture from the F4 and eventually earns their respect. The 20-year-old rookie actress from Taiwan fills the shoes left by Barbie Hsu. She beat out thousands of other hopefuls for the iconic role, even getting a selfie with Barbie on Barbie’s Instagram. Fans can see Yue’s acting chops for themselves in the upcoming Chinese drama “A Love So Beautiful.”
