For the first time in the competition, a test of the candidates’ intelligence was done even before the coronation day. Miss Philippines Earth 2017 coronation night happens on Saturday, July 15, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. On June 5, these forty beauties were introduced to the Philippines at the Diamond Hotel in Manila as stated in a report by GMA. One of these ladies will be taking over the crown soon replacing Loren Mar Artajos. Artajos is the second runner-up who replaced crowned Miss Earth Philippines 2016 Imelda Schweighart who voluntarily relinquished her crown. Schweighart drew flack for saying President Rodrigo Duterte was like Nazi leader Adolf Hitler which of course created much controversy. First runner-up Kiara Giel Gregorio at that time wasn’t able to take on the responsibility due to a scholarship with the University of Westminster in London as reported by ABS-CBN. Miss Philippines Earth 2017 Prejudging of Intelligence On Sunday, July 9, Miss Philippines Earth 2017 conducted a prejudging of intelligence held at the Diamond Hotel. According to CNN, judges asked a series of questions to gauge the candidates’ knowledge on environmental issues, policies, and how they personally take care of the planet. Miss Philippines Earth gives the biggest percentage to intelligence compared to other beauty pageants. The judges include Environmental Department Asec Rommel Abesamis and Foreign Affairs Department Director Raymund Toledo. Miss Philippines Earth 2006 Catherine Untalan-Vital was also part of the roster of judges. In the report, Miss Philippines Earth organizer Lorraine Shuck said candidates are getting better every year. She said, “They’re getting more aware of the situation, getting good girls who are so passionate, they’re not just here to be a beauty queen.” Catch the Miss Philippines Earth 2017 Coronation Night on July 15 at the MOA Arena.
