Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen Talks Signs, Memories, Charlene Gonzales And Love With Jessica Soho

Former Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen has come back full circle. She recently came back to the Philippines as judge in the 65th Miss Universe pageant last January 30, 23 years after she herself won the title when the pageant was held here in the country.

In an interview with GMA’s Jessica Soho, she remembers how the title affected her and her life. She also fondly recalls personal moments with her mother and her fellow contestants in the pageant.

Sushmita Sen Receives A Sign

During the interview, Soho asked the beauty queen if she had any idea that she was going to win the crown that night. Sushmita recalled the night before the pageant that she could not sleep so she went on to talk to God. After asking God to help her be the best version of herself, the cloudy night suddenly gave way to a bright, moonlit night. According to her, that was the first time she felt something was going to happen to her. Come pageant night, her belief that she had a chance became stronger when she was called as part of the top 10.

Sushmita Sen Affinity With Filipinos

She called journey as Miss Universe as something that is not like other winners. According to her, when she won here, the Filipinos did not forget her after she left. She even recalls times when Philippine media would seek her out in India and ask “Where is our Sushmita now? What is she doing?” After which, they would share the news back in the country.

Aside from the Filipino viewers, she also shared an unforgettable experience with Miss Philippines Charlene Gonzales. Before the pageant, she was crying because she had lost her earrings and did not have any to wear during coronation night. Charlene then approached her and offered to lend her some of her earrings for her to use. That exact pair was what she wore during the night she won the title. When she attempted to return them, Charlene said that it was hers to keep because it was her lucky earrings. Charlene said, “Take it as a gift from the Philippines.”

Sushmita Dating, Attached; Answers Question On Getting Married

Sushmita is mom to two adopted girls, both of whom the beauty queen is raising on her own. She says they make her life “magical, tough, complicated, very human.” Soho then asked her why she is unattached. Sushmita said she was in fact “very attached, just not married.” She said that this may happen “in due course of time.”

Sushmita Meets Other Sushmitas

During the latter part of the interview, Soho brings in four girls who were born in 1994 and were all named after Sushmita. Her reaction to this was priceless, and she even shared with them what Sushmita meant. According to her, it meant “a beautiful smile.”
