Miss Universe 2016 fever has hit the Philippines as contestants in the international beauty pageant started arriving last week. With the coronation night only a few weeks away, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo-Wurtzbach also arrived last January 14, in time to join the rest of the contestants as they familiarize themselves with Philippine culture. Some of the contestants have already been treated to Philippine hospitality, after visiting the world-famous Boracay beach and heritage site Vigan.

Miss Universe 2015 Pia is Back to ‘Join in the Fun’

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach could not contain how delighted she was to be back in her country. On January 14, Saturday, she posted a video on her Instagram account seen below saying she was back to “join in the fun.” The video showed her playing with the stuffed carabao toy that each Miss Universe contestant gets as a welcome gift.

Pia is scheduled to join a group of 32 contestants when they visit the summer capital, Baguio City on January 18 and 19. They will be treated to their very own floral festival parade, a meet and greet with golfers, and a Culinary Sojourn at the Baguio Convention Center.

Miss Universe 2016 Beauties Take a Splash in Boracay

The first part of pre-pageant activities included a visit to the world-famous beaches of Boracay island. According to a report in the Inquirer, 16 candidates were lucky to be part of the tour, which included dragon boat-rowing, basket weaving and fishnet making. The candidates’ swimwear photoshoot was part of the official itinerary as well.

The delegates who were part of the tour were a good mix of countries from Latin America, the Pacific, Asia and Africa. These included Miss Argentina, Miss Australia, Miss Belize, Miss Chile, Miss Costa Rica, Miss Ecuador, Miss Guyana, Miss Malta, Miss Mexico, Miss Myanmar, Miss Namibia, Miss Nicaragua, Miss Poland, Miss Turkey, Miss US Virgin Island and Miss Honduras.

Miss Universe 2016 Beauties In Historical Vigan

Philippine bet Maxine Medina joined twenty other candidates in touring the historic city of Vigan. Part of their visit was hosted by former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson at his very own Baluarte Zoo, where the beauties enjoyed some time getting close and personal to some of the zoo’s unique animals.

Aside from this, the contestants also tried their hand at traditional jar making and loomweaving. They also wore specially made “ternos” (Philippine national dress) during a fashion show along Calle Crisologo and Plaza Burgos.

Among the candidates who visited Vigan were Miss Belgium, Miss Brazil, Miss British Virgin Islands, Miss Bulgaria, Miss Cayman Islands, Miss Czech Republic, Miss Great Britain, Miss Guatemala, Miss Malaysia, Miss Netherlands, Miss Nicaragua, Miss Sierra Leone, Miss Singapore, Miss Slovak Republic, Miss Thailand, Miss USA, Miss Uruguay, Miss Venezuela and Miss Vietnam.
