Baguio City is one of the places that Miss Universe 2017 contestants will visit when the country hosts the prestigious pageant next year. Miss Universe officials have included the Summer Capital of the Philippines in the pageant’s itinerary in January 2017. 

Miss Universe In Baguio City

According to Sun Star Baguio, Tourism Undersecretary Kat de Castro who mentioned that Baguio was indeed on the recommended list of places for contestants to visit. She told Sun Star that the country “is ready to host the Miss Universe pageant.” For her, this means “close coordination” between the Department of Tourism, the organizers and agencies and local governments.

Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan welcomed the news. He also thanked DOT and its officials for the city’s inclusion in the list. Hosting Miss Universe contestants will add to the city’s appeal as a popular tourist destination in the Philippines.

Baguio As An International Destination

The chief executive promised that the local government will come prepared for the visit. Aside from the usual security and order preparations, he also said that they will also show the rich culture and traditions of the Cordillerans.

With an international pageant comes international media, who will play a crucial role in showcasing Baguio as a prime tourist destination. 

If these international visitors experience this first-hand, they will surely tell others about it. Usec de Castro emphasized this as well, saying that the contestants can promote places like Baguio in their countries because they have been there.

Miss Universe 2017 Host Country, Philippines

Despite earlier reports of cancellation, the DOT confirmed that preparations for the pageant are ongoing and on track. According to a GMA News report, the pageant will happen on January 30 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, declared DOT Secretary Wanda Teo . Furthermore, she revealed that the contestants will arrive on January 13.
