Miss Universe 2016 candidates have been arriving in the country one by one and they are just getting ready for their busy itinerary until the Grand Coronation Night at the Mall Of Asia Arena on January 30. Part of their itinerary is to visit Baguio City on January 18. With a float for the beauty queens and a meet and greet  with golfers. With the busy schedule, Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan announced the suspension of classes and closure of roads on January 18.

Baguio Roads Closed On January 18, Traffic Plan

The Administrative order issued by Mayor Domogan requires the temporary closing of both lanes of upper Session Road from the Session Rotonda up to its junction with Military Cut-Off and Loakan Roads and both lanes of South Drive Road from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 18.

According to the Baguio Midland Courier, the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) has finalized the traffic deployment and rerouting to serve as a guide for motorists and the public. The parade starts at the Department of the Interior Local Government Office at Upper Session Road. They will then pass by Nevada-Panagbenge Park and take South Drive to the Baguio Country Club.

Both lanes of these roads will be closed from 7 a.m. until the event will close.Teacher’s Camp junction to South Drive, PNR junction to Upper Session Road and UP Drive junction is also closed from 7 a.m.

The report further advised the public on routes Baguio dwellers or tourists should take. Those taking public jeepneys coming from Loakan, Military Cut-Off, Hillside, and Gabriela Silang are advised to take Military Cut-Off-BGH rotunda-Kisad Road, J. Abad Santos-Harrison Road-Veteran’s Park to reach respective destinations.

Those that are from PNR, DPS Compund, and Greenwater on the other hand are advised to take Nevada Road-Engineers Hill-Leonard Wood Road-YMCA to reach their destinations as well.

Pedestrians coming from Session Road or the central business should take Harrison Road-Magsaysay-Upper General Luna-Happy Glen Loop-Leonard Wood- to reach to their point of origin.

Suspension Of Classes On January 18

According to the Administrative Order No 03, Series of 2017, classes in all levels in both private and public in the city of Baguio on Wednesday are suspended to pave the way for the conduct of the street dancing and mini-float parade for the visiting beauty contestants of the Miss Universe Pageant.

Mayor Domogan invites all Baguio dwellers to take part in the event but requested for cooperation as to traffic plans and such. in the report by Baguio Midland Courier he said, “While Baguio is a generally peaceful place, (we have to understand) that the security handler of Miss Universe is strict about the candidates’ security.”

In the Mayor’s Facebook post he said, “MS. UNIVERSE 2017 CANDIDATES VISIT BAGUIO. Announcement of Suspension of Classes and Closure of Roads. Please be guided accordingly. We invite the People of Baguio and its adjoining municipalities to come and witness this once in a lifetime event.”
