Recently, the “Magic 8” films of the controversial Metro Manila Festival 2016 has officially released its trailers. On December 23, stars of each film appeared on the streets during the annual “Parade of Stars” and on Christmas Day, the MMFF 2016 films hit theaters for public viewing.

MMFF 2016 Top 4 Box Office Hits On Opening Day

The MMFF Executive Committee has now revealed the top four grossing movies of the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival which was based on the box-office gross of the “Magic 8” on its opening day, December 25.In a report made by PEP, the MMFF Executive committee made an official statement on the four top grossers for the first day.

The MMFF Execom said, “THE MMFF EXECOM is happy to have reached our 1st day target ticket sales. We have re-assessed and set a new benchmark for this festival, we nevertheless look at the financial sales for the 1st day as a real bonus as we have already achieved what we started out to in the first place which is the cultural advancement through our Filipino films. You cannot put a price at something which the future generations of Filipinos will find priceless and ageless. We are happy to announce that the first day topgrossers (in alphabetical order) are:

‘Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 2: Forever is Not enough’

The movie is a sequel to the 2011 Cinemalaya-winning indie directed by Marlon Rivera. The comedy movie starring Eugene Domingo as Eugene Domingo trying to imagine her fictional character ‘Romina’ with Jericho Rosales or Joel Torre as her leading man for her new movie.

‘Die Beautiful’

The movie starring Paolo Ballesteros shows the journey of Trisha, a Filipino transgender woman who suddenly dies while being crowned in a beauty pageant. His dying wish was to be presented as a different celebrity each night of her wake. His friends work to make it happen while his family wants him to be buried as a man. The comedy-drama film is directed by Jun Robles Lana.

‘Seklusyon’

“Seklusyon” is a movie directed by Erik Matti. This horror thriller film stars Ronnie Alonte, Rhed Bustamante, Phoebe Walker, Niel Ryan Sese, Lou Veloso and Dominic Roque. The story is about an old ritual done by priests and deacons of the church in 1947.

‘Vince and Kath and James’

The break-out text seryeby Jenny Ruth Almocera has become a motion picture in “Vince and Kath and James” directed by Theodore Boborol. The film about two teens who fall inlove through text messages features Julia Barretoo, Joshua Garcia and Ronnie Alonite.

‘Kabisera’

“Kabisera” is a sociopolitical film starring Nora Aunor. Nora in the movie, is a mother trying to keep her family together after being involved in a series of extra judicial killings and other crimes. The film is directed by Artuto San Agustin.

‘Oro’

“Oro” directed by Alvin Yapan tells the story of the challenges of living in a mining community and being taken over by the military. The film which is based om a true story features Joem Bscon, Mercedes Cabrak and Irma Adlawan.

Sunday Beauty Queen

The film directed by Baby Ruth Villarama shows the journey of an OFW based in Hongkong who participates in the Miss Philippines Tourism Hongkong. An inspiring story.

Saving Sally

A film directed by Avid Liongoren is a story about Marty, the ‘geeky guy’  who dreams of becoming a comic book artist and is inspired by Sally, his friend. It stars Enxo Marcos and Rhian Ramos.

In the statement of the MMFF Executive Committee they added, “We shall continue promoting and supporting the 8 MMFF entries as they all deserve to be watched and patronized by the Filipino audiences. ”
