MMK ‘Ligaw Na Trahedya,’ A Child’s Inspiration is His Family
Ninin is the youngest son of the family. As a 7-year-old boy, he has already been exposed to the ways of life in a struggling neighborhood in Cebu. What is remarkable is his undefeated spirit. He is able to shrug things off and chooses to look at the positive side of life. His family and everyone in his community knows this about him. Ninin is inspired by his father, Isong.
He is a barangay police officer and works part time as a habal-habal driver. Ninin witnesses how his father takes out criminals in the neighborhood. He then begins to dream to be a policeman someday too. Although Ninin’s mother, Marilou, is not in favor of husband’s job because of the dangers he faces, she succumbs to it because it provides for their needs. The family continues to strive to make a decent living and remain tight-knit in their relationships with each other.
Neighborhood Violence is a Culprit
Tragedy befell the family in a police operation that went terribly wrong. On a seemingly routinary day, Isong is faced with the reality that his family fell victim to the collateral damage brought about by crime and violence. The greatest challenge Isong has to face is how to keep his family together. The aftermath of the loss is most difficult to surpass. With the help of the community, Isong and his home are able to get back on their feet again.
