Maalaala Mo Kaya March 25: PBB Lucky 7 Big Winner Acts In Own Lifestory In MMKMaymay

Maalaala Mo Kaya’s March 25 episode is the first acting stint of Maymay Entrata after winning big time in the 7th Season of Pinoy Big Brother. As the story unfolds, Maymay’s followers will understand why and how she reached for her stars and fulfilled her dream. Known as the “Wacky Go Lucky of CDO” (Cagayan De Oro), her famed humor will be given even more depth in her featured story.

The episode stars Vina Morales as Maymay’s mom, Dante Rivero and Ces Quesada as her grandparents, Paul Salas, Marc Acueza, Kim Balinger, Raven Cajuguiran, Johan Santos, Bianca Bentulan, and Lance Lucido. It is directed by Raz de la Torre and written by Joan Habana and Arah Jell Badayos.

Maymay’s Family Has its Ups and Downs

Vina Morales’ portrayal as Maymay’s mom, Lorna, is heartfelt and real.  When Maymay was born, her parents were overjoyed. But not everyone in the family feels the same. In a phone call, Lorna hears her mother-in-law rejecting her grandchild blatantly. The only thing her husband could do is tell her mother to call at another day. Not too long after, Maymay’s dad chooses to go to the UK to work. In other words, he left Lorna and Maymay a little after her first birthday. After a few years, Lorna, too, had to leave and go back to work in Japan for Maymay and her brother. Maymay is then left at the care of her grandparents – Papa Joe and Mama Ludy – along with her brother and her other cousins. Maymay now lives in a full house of almost a dozen. She has her grandfather to keep her spirits up through the gift of humor and tricks up his sleeve.

The Filipino OFW Family Today: Grandparents Play the Role that Parents Should

Like Maymay, the families with Overseas Filipino Workers face the same predicament. As the parents work for their families, the grandparents are left with the responsibility of taking care of the children. This has its pros and cons, for sure. The most challenging situation would be instilling discipline and preserving character and the proper attitude among the grandchildren. This is exactly the role Papa Joe played in Maymay’s life.

When he was giving a piece of his mind to both Maymay and her brother, his heart couldn’t take the stress. He collapsed due to a heat stroke. This situation was so alarming to Maymay and her brother that they decide to make things right and make sure to help the family out. Because of Papa Joe’s illness, the family slowly began losing their savings. They incurred a lot of debt to the point that even their home was under foreclosure.

Such situations lead to some children feeling abandoned. Maymay, her brother and her cousins felt this way one way or another. They succumb to asking for help from their parents who are shores away. More often than not, silence is the only answer they get. For Maymay, she has accepted the fact that her mother has a new family and her father, too, has his own family. She and her brother are left to survive on their own.

Because of this, Maymay is even more appreciative of her grandparents. The same is true with her brother and her cousins. They are blessed to have a home, amidst the complicated family situation.

Maymay Strives Hard for her Family

Maymay was able to go through college because she was part of the choir. She is also very persistent in auditioning at any talent competition or any opportunity to be part of reality TV. Being rejected over and over again, however, began to affect her. Aside from feeling rejected from her family, she now feels that her dreams are rejecting her as well. It is a good thing that Papa Joe is always there to step in and encourage her.

One night, her grandfather told her to never feel think of herself as a reject. Instead, she should always believe in herself. To prove his point further, he showed Maymay his earnings for the day. He wanted to give everything to Maymay for her Cagayan De Oro venture, but he was thinking of her cousins, too. He joked about literally tearing the bill in two – one half for her and the other for her cousins. Of course, humor wins. The grandfather and granddaughter share a moment worth cherishing.

Later on, Maymay finds out that her mother’s husband left her the Maymay’s father did. Maymay’s drive to be successful was strengthened even more. In school, she would sell anything – lipstick, candies, food, anything. To her, every peso counts. She just cannot take things for granted. She cannot give up.

Pinoy Big Brother is Maymay’s Big Break

While scrolling down on her newsfeed, Maymay sees the PBB ad calling for auditions. She is hesitant, naturally, because of the many no’s she got. She says a prayer instead, asking for signs. If she wakes up before 5 am without an alarm, she would audition. If she sees a white rose, she would audition. To her surprise, she did see a white rose in her newsfeed. But, still, she didn’t budge. She again asked that if someone she knows asks her to audition, she will definitely go for it. The heavens did answer and her friend asked her to go with her in that same audition. She finally went for it.

The million dollar question was: What is the worst thing you experienced in your daily commute? Other contestants said it was when a boyfriend broke up with her while riding in a bus. The other said the worst thing is to sit beside someone with body odor. When it was Maymay’s turn, she was simply her outspoken and funny self. She said that she hates it when drivers do not honor student fare. Drivers always refuse to give her that one peso change as a student. She said that every peso counts and not being shortchanged is that important to her. She ended her answer with a monologue of how she shouts at the drivers demanding for her change. Once again, humor wins. She got in and is part of PBB’s Season 7 housemates.

Maymay Triumphs as PBB Lucky 7 Winner Amidst Loss

While Maymay’s family enjoyed every airing episode of PBB with her in it, a fateful night came when Papa Joe got a heart attack. He died and the news broke the heart of Maymay. She wanted to quit. The joy of her life is gone, he was the only one who truly was there for him. Maymay cries in anguish, expressing this pain to her mother. Lorna assured her daughter that she is there for her. Even if she was far away working, she always had Maymay and her brother with her. With some strength in her pockets, she decided to go back to PBB. In the end, this was the best choice she made amidst losing her grandfather. Maymay’s name was announced as the Lucky 7 Winner of Pinoy Big Brother. She has fulfilled her promise to Papa Joe and is now living her dream.

Maalaala Mo Kaya’s March 25 episode is entitled “Bahay.”
