Assistant secretary of the Presidential Communications Operation Office (PCOO) Mocha Uson is running for senator in the 2019 elections. Secretary General House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez made the announcement on Friday.

Sexy entertainer turned blogger is one of the most popular supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte. She became an Ambassador of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) in Dec 2016 and then member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) in January. She climbed up the ladder and was appointed the assistant secretary of the PCOO in May.

Mocha Uson for Senator in 2019, Twitterverse reacts

A report by CNN confirms that Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson will be running for Senate in 2019. Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque is also one of those candidates. House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said she and Harry Roque are on the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) party list. Alvarez made the announcement during the mass-oathtaking of new members of PDP-Laban in Cebu on Friday. According to a tweet by CNN posted below, Mocha Uson said she was surprised by Speaker Alvarez’s announcement.

Mocha Uson’s appointment as MMFF ambassador and MTRCB member became such a controversy. Many had an issue with her being a sexy entertainer under the dance group Mocha Girls. Known to be a sexy entertainer turned blogger and supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, recent news of Mocha running for Senate is yet again another addition to her online reputation.

Meanwhile, netizens on Twitter shared what they felt about the recent revelation. Some are struggling to find logic on her being a senatorial candidate while some share memes of their reactions. Some joke around the fact that they might just leave the Philippines if Mocha Uson wins. Most of the tweets posted are against the idea of blogger Mocha Uson running for Senate in 2019.
